Biofertilizers, an integral component in green agriculture, help in nurturing the soil eco system... more Biofertilizers, an integral component in green agriculture, help in nurturing the soil eco system by adding soil organic matter. Soil micro flora performs various activities which influence growth promotion resulting in crop productivity and yield. Synthetic biofertilizers, germicides, toxic materials and other crop inputs cause critical ecologicald is balance, and reduce soil health and fertility in long run. Biofertilizer becomes an alternate solution to overcome this issue. In this context, the experiment was undertaken to estimate the efficiency of consortia of rhizosphere microorganisms on the growth promotion of beetroot under greenhouse conditions. The bio inoculants were applied individually and in consortia. Co-inoculation with phosphate solubilizer, potash mobilizer and potassium solubilising bacterial isolates (T4) showed notable growth attributes and nutrient assimilation. Single inoculation with potash mobilizes exhibited equally highest growth parameters. Ascorbic acid and dietary fibre content were also recorded highest in T4 whereas, beta nine content was found highest in single inoculation (T6) applied. Secondary and tertiary nutrient content uptake was also recorded maximum in consortia followed by individual inoculations.

The hazardous effect of synthetic fertilizers on human health and the environment, high cost, etc. are leading to choose alternative options of farming. Administration of biofertilizers enhances crop productivity, improves soil fertility and maintains an eco-friendly environment as well. The present study is focused to evaluate the effect of the application of liquid biofertilizers viz., PSB, KMB, and KSB isolate on growth, yield, and nutrient content uptake in lettuce under greenhouse conditions. Individual and co-inoculation of PSB, KMB, and KSB isolates have highly influenced the biomass, number of leaves as well as nutrient content of lettuce. The experiment was conducted in randomized block design containing six treatments both individual and in consortia. The growth parameters evaluated were root length, shoot length, number of leaves, fresh weight, and dry weight. Among the six treatments, co-inoculation with PSB+KMB+KSB (T4) recorded the highest root length, shoot length, number of leaves, fresh weight, and dry weight. All the other treatments were par with each other, whereas, control (uninoculated) recorded the least.

Phytohormones are mainly signal molecules involved in cell elongation, apical dominance, tissue differentiation and cell division. Phytohormones can induce several reactions and based on the reactions they are divided into auxin, cytokinin , gibberellin , ethylene and abscisic acid. Production of phytohormones are not only associated with plants, occurrence of phytohormones are also involved with microorganisms mainly beneficial rhizobacteria. Rhizosphere microorganisms are naturally occurring beneficial bacteria which colonize the plant roots and promotes growth by enhancing nutrient availability and producing plant growth promoting substances. Potassium solubilizing bacteria are also rhizospheric microorganisms which produce different phytohormones. The present study has taken up to investigate the production of phytohormones by the potassium solubilizing bacteria isolated from banana rhizosphere. All the six isolates showed good amount of phytohormone production. Among the six KSB isolates, isolate SAF showed highest amount of cytokinin production, whereas SAM showed maximum content of gibberelic acid and SBF showed maximum IAA production. Hence, the present study indicates that potassium solubilizing bacteria which solubilizes insoluble potassium from the soil also have the capacity to produce phytohormones which can promote plant growth.

Plants absorb potassium in its ionic form K + . Feldspars and micas are minerals that contain most of the K. Potassium solubilizing bacteria solubilizes these insoluble form of potassium to soluble forms for plant uptake. Isolation of potassium solubilizer was carried out from banana rhizosphere soil amended with orthoclase feldspar and muscovite mica. Among the six isolates all the isolates were characterized and screened by biochemical tests and three isolates exhibited highest solubilization zone, produced highest amount of organic acids along with significant amount of potassium released. The present study suggest that these three isolates can be used as efficient potassium solubilizer in sustainable agriculture.

In case of carrot, maximum fresh weight and seedling vigour was observed in T 9 and number of leaves observed highest in T 3 and T 6. Germination percentage was also recorded highest in T 6. Beet root growth was also highly influenced by the application of biofertilizers and (KMB) T 9 recorded significantly highest growth. Root length, shoot length, number of leaves and seedling vigour was recorded highest in T 9 , whereas, fresh weight and dry weight was observed highest in T 7. In lettuce all the treatments showed different results. T 3 recorded maximum seedling vigour highest shoot length and fresh weight was observed in T 6 and maximum number of leaves was recorded in T 8. In all the crops, control showed least growth and germination percentage.

Co-inoculation of potassium solubilizers, mobilizers and phosphate solubilizers together has significantly influenced the growth parameters and nutrient uptake in radish. All the growth parameters viz., shoot length, root length, no of leaves, fresh weight and dry weight was significantly enhanced by the application of biofertilizers. Among six treatments, consortia of potassium solubilizing isolates, potassium mobilizers and phosphorus solubilizing bacteria (T 3) and single inoculation of potassium mobilizer (T 6) recorded significantly highest growth parameters i.e. total biomass, no of leaves, shoot length, tuber weight, tuber diameter. Nutrient uptake was also recorded highest in T 3 followed by T 6 and T 2 respectively. Secondary nutrients calcium and magnesium was recorded highest in T 3 and T 9 , whereas, tertiary nutrients viz., iron was significantly recorded highest in T 3 followed by T 6 , copper was recorded maximum in T 3 and T 6 , zinc content was also observed highest in T 3. Therefore, the study reveals that application of consortia of potassium solubilizers, mobilizers and phosphate solubilizers has highly enhanced the growth and nutrient uptake of radish under greenhouse condition.
