reaching transitional areas to the Cerrado, in the States of Minas Gerais and São Paulo, whose type-locality is Rio de Janeiro, not Bahia, as previously thought. Proceratophrys renalis is
revalidated; its distribution comprises the Atlantic Forest, from the State of Paraíba to the south of the State of Bahia, reaching transitional areas between the Cerrado and Caatinga in the Jequitinhonha river drainage, in the State of Minas Gerais, and the caatinga domains between the States of Ceará and Paraíba. Two new species of Proceratophrys with eyelid appendages are presented, one from Ilha Grande, municipality of Angra dos Reis, State of Rio
de Janeiro, and another from the Guaporé river drainage, in the State of Rondônia, whose distribution is the most occidental known for the genus.
de anuros em atividade reprodutiva em um brejo localizado na Reserva Biológica de Duas Bocas, Espírito
Santo, sudeste do Brasil.
A análise estatística detectou diferença significativa
para a distribuição vertical dos hilídeos. Espécies das três famílias preferiram diferentes regiões e microambientes
do brejo.
chuvosos do ano.

ABSTRACT: Spatial and temporal distribution of anurans in a swamp of Reserva Biológica de Duas Bocas,
Southeastern Brazil.
This study aimed to investigate space and time partitioning related to reproductive activity of anuran
species in a swamp of Reserva Biológica de Duas Bocas, State of Espírito Santo, Southeastern Brasil.
We evaluate space use distribution through vertical distribution, obtained by the measurement of height
in relation to water, and horizontal distribution, obtained by the recognition of regions and microhabitats
used as calling sites at the swamp. To verify temporal distributions, the annual activity period and daily
vocalization turn of each species were recorded. Nineteen species, distributed among three families,
were recorded at the swamp. Hylidae was the most numerous family, followed by Leptodactylidae and
Bufonidae. Statistical analysis detected significant difference in vertical distribution of hylids. Species
of three families used different microhabitats at the swamp. Vertical and horizontal distributions of nine
species were influenced by environmental variables. The number of species was positively correlated
with water depth. The smallest aggregations were observed in cold months and the largest, in hot and
rainy months. The number of calling males of thirteen species was influenced by at least one environmental
variable. Statistical analysis did not allow detection of significant differences among the onsets of species
call activities, but significant differences between call activities peak and end were detected. Despite
sharing reproductive resources, species had some level of overlap in all parameters searched and this
suggests that spatial and temporal distributions were not determinant as a reproductive isolation
mechanism of anuran species at the swamp.
ABSTRACT: New species of Proceratophrys Miranda-Ribeiro, 1920 from Southeastern Brazil (Amphibia, Anura, Leptodactylidae).
The description of a new species of the genus Proceratophrys related to P. boiei, from Santa Teresa, State of Espírito Santo, is presented. The new species is distinguished from P. boiei by the presence of parallel and weakly marked frontoparietal crests, with shallow depression between them, narrower head, larger eye, and advertisement calls composed by shorter notes, fewer number of pulses, and higher dominant frequency.
ABSTRACT: Reproductive behavior, vocalization, and redescription of the tadpole of Phrynohyas mesophaea (Hensel, 1867) of southeastern Brazil (Amphibia, Anura, Hylidae)
The reproductive behavior and redescription of the tadpole of Phrynohyas mesophaea are presented. Field works were developed in the Parque Estadual da Serra do Mar, State of São Paulo, and in the Reserva Biológica de Duas Bocas, State of Espírito Santo, both in southeastern Brasil. Phrynohyas mesophaea is an explosive breeder species that uses temporary ponds inside forest, at the onset of the rainy season. A simple note, with harmonic structure, and dominant frequency between the approximate values of 0.84 and 1.19kHz, characterizes the vocalization. Oligochaetes were liberated with the spawn of one female from Parque Estadual da Serra do Mar. The described tadpole presents dental formula 4(1,2,4)/6(1). Reproductive behaviors, vocalizations, and tadpoles of the species of the genus Phrynohyas are compared.
