Samambaias Do Parque Zoobotânico Getúlio Vargas, Salvador, Bahia

This study aimed to perform a survey of ferns occurring in the Parque Zoobotânico Getúlio Vargas,... more This study aimed to perform a survey of ferns occurring in the Parque Zoobotânico Getúlio Vargas, contributing with information about flora in remnant forest in Salvador, Bahia . Three excursions were performed to the park in September and October 2008, totaling 45 hours of sampling effort. The specimens were collected following the usual techniques. The identification was done through literature, and compared with herbarium specimens of the RADAMBRASIL Herbarium. According to the study 18 species in 14 genera and 8 families were found. The most representative families were Pteridaceae (5 spp.), Polypodiaceae (4 spp.) Thelypteridaceae (4 spp.). The genus with the highest number of species was Thelypteris(3 spp.). The results demonstrate the level of degradation in the one of the few remnants of Atlantic Forest of Salvador.

Additions to Cuban Selaginella (Selaginellaceae)

Three new Selaginella species from Cuba, S. myriostachya, S. nanophylla and S. phiara, are descri... more Three new Selaginella species from Cuba, S. myriostachya, S. nanophylla and S. phiara, are described, illustrated with Scanning Electron Micrographs, and compared to similar species. Selaginella myriostachya and S. phiara are from Pinar del Río province, the latter one is also found in Isla de la Juventud special municipality, both in the western part of Cuba. In contrast, S. nanophylla is from Guantánamo, Holguín, and Santiago de Cuba provinces in the eastern part of the island. Information about their habitat, distribution, and conservation status is provided. Selaginella myriostachya lives in cave openings on limestone rocks in Mogotes formations; S. nanophylla is one of the smallest plants reported for the genus and seems adapted to serpentine soils. Selaginella phiara has idioblasts with several bright, papillae on the upper surface of median leaves and lower surface of lateral leaves, and short hairs on the upper surface of the apices of median leaves.

A treatment of the lycophytes of the Northern Pará Biodiversity Corridor within the Guiana Endemi... more A treatment of the lycophytes of the Northern Pará Biodiversity Corridor within the Guiana Endemism Center is presented. This article is part of the project “Diagnóstico da Biodiversidade das Unidades de Conservação estaduais do Mosaico Calha Norte, Estado do Pará”. The treatment includes keys as well as species descriptions. In the study area 14 species distributed in four genera (Palhinhaea, Phlegmariurus, Pseudolycopodiella and Selaginella) were registered. The most diverse genus was Selaginella with 10 species, of which S. fragilis A. Braun and S. revoluta Baker are new records for Pará, and S. gynostachya Valdespino and S. sandwithii Alston are reported here as new to the Brazilian flora.

This paper is part of a series where the lycophyte and fern species of the Biodiversity Corridor ... more This paper is part of a series where the lycophyte and fern species of the Biodiversity Corridor ofnorthern Pará State are presented, produced under the project “Diagnóstico da Biodiversidade das Unidades de ConservaçãoEstaduais do Mosaico Calha Norte,
Estado do Pará”. In this manuscript the taxonomic treatment of Cyatheales is presented with identification keys, illustrations,
distribution, descriptions, and comments to the studied taxa. Two families (Cyatheaceae and Metaxyaceae), three genera
(Cnemidaria, Cyathea, and Metaxya), eight species, and one variety are registered. Cyatheais the most representative genus
with seven species.

Licófitas e samambaias do Parque Metropolitano de Pituaçu, município de Salvador , Bahia, Brasil

Resumo -É apresentado o levantamento das licófitas e samambaias do Parque Metropolitano de Pituaç... more Resumo -É apresentado o levantamento das licófitas e samambaias do Parque Metropolitano de Pituaçu, Salvador, Bahia. Foram registradas 36 espécies, pertencentes a 22 gêneros e 14 famílias. As famílias mais representativas foram Pteridaceae, com 11 espécies distribuídas em cinco gêneros (Acrostichum, Adiantum, Pityrogramma, Pteris e Vittaria), e Thelypteridaceae, com seis espécies distribuídas em dois gêneros (Macrothelypteris e Thelypteris). Os gêneros com maior número de espécies foram Adiantum (6) e Thelypteris (5). A maioria das espécies apresentou-se como herbácea e terrícola. Este é o primeiro estudo abordando exclusivamente as licófitas e samambaias em um remanescente florestal urbano na cidade de Salvador.
