Since 2009, the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) has teamed up with the Universit... more Since 2009, the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) has teamed up with the University of Iowa School of Public Health to hold summits on environmental health for legislators from the Midwest. Legislators from Kansas, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Missouri, Minnesota, Michigan, Nebraska, Ohio and Wisconsin have all participated in one of the 4 summits held on environmental health. The focus of the summits is to take research performed by the University of Iowa School of Public Health and translate into viable information that is useful to the state policy making audience. Learning about highly complex chemicals and toxic hazards can be overwhelming to the state legislative audience. These summits provide legislators an opportunity to meet with researchers and learn about the complexities of environmental health research. Construction of the 148 turbines, each about 213 feet tall, was completed in only 85 days and will provide renewable power to Alliant Energy. MidAmerican Energy, Iowa's largest electric utility, has pledged to build a $325 million, 310-MW wind farm with 200 turbines in northern Iowa. 5
