🙌 At Belfast Beer & Cider Festival today we are joined by Out of Office Brewery. 🍻 Come along and try their duvet day NE pale. Duvet Day has a creamy mouthfeel from a healthy addition of oats with a big aroma from the dry hop of Cashmere, Mosaic and a sprinkle of Citra. 📷 The Learn & Discover Team, taken by Laura Hadland. 📍 Banana Block Belfast, BT4 1HE

Being Cornwall-based, it's easy to forget what other wonderful parts of the country are out there. Reflecting on a weekend in Manchester, what shone through was the passion of the people in hospitality that we met over the weekend. From niche beer/ wine bars to amazing bakeries and cool coffee spots, we always had a recommendation of where to go next (and even who to chat to). It wasn't about keeping us there to spend more, it was about "go and explore our awesome city, here are some secret spots you'll love". Hospitality can be tough but when it's done right it can be pretty life affirming. (If you're heading to MCR, pick up a copy of Matthew Curtis' book from Waterstones for some starters on where to go... and then make the most of that hospitality!)

Anspach & Hobday Brewery have won Champion IPA of Britain at Campaign for Real Ale's Kelham Beer Festival. The IPA went onto win Silver Supreme Champion Beer of Britain overall - The best result from a London Brewery in over 30s years, when Fuller's won Silver with their ESB in 1991! Huge congratulations to the brewing team (past and present) and a major thanks to all our diligent customers who's care and consistency in pouring great IPA (and our other cask beers) is a huge part of this win. We'll be looking to setup some celebration events where The IPA (also current Champion Beer of London) and Ordinary Bitter (Champion Session Bitter of London) can all be enjoyed! Cheers! I am delighted and honoured to have my work on Campaign for Real Ale's Learn and Discover platform shortlisted for the British Guild of Beer Writers 2024 awards. The result once more, of the inspiring work of Ruvani de Silva accompanied by Christine Jopling's playful and considered illustrations - Mexican Lager: A History of Colonialism, Adaption, Appropriation and Ascendence. Read it here: https://lnkd.in/evGTpS_V Cheers! 🍻 I am grateful for their continued faith in me and in working with CAMRA Learn and Discover.

London Brewers Alliance celebrates Paddy Johnson of Windsor & Eton Brewery, recipient of the 2024 John Young Memorial Award! The London Campaign for Real Ale branches have honoured Paddy Johnson, a founding member of the LBA and head brewer at Windsor & Eton Brewery, with the John Young Memorial Award. This award, named after the iconic John Young of Young's Brewery, is given to individuals or organisations who have greatly contributed to real ale and pub culture in Greater London. Since co-founding Windsor & Eton in 2010 alongside Will Calvert, Bob, and Jim Morrison, Paddy has been a steadfast advocate for quality brewing and collaboration in London. The award was presented on Sunday at the Windsor & Eton Tap Room, with Torquil Young, nephew of John Young, making the presentation in the presence of previous winners. We’re proud of Paddy’s achievements and his dedication to the industry. Congratulations, Paddy, for this well-deserved honour! 🍻 #LBA #CAMRA #PaddyJohnson #LondonBrewers #WindsorEtonBrewery #RealAle

I have a weird-ass job, but it’s one I chose because it is so incredibly fulfilling. Beer and pubs are the centre of my universe, honestly. That’s why it feels so incredibly validating to have picked up no less than FIVE nominations at this years The British Guild of Beer Writers awards. The nominations are for work entered from Pellicle, GETERBREWED, Beer52.com | B-Corp’s Ferment Magazine and two noms in particular are for my Campaign for Real Ale book Manchester’s Best Beer Pubs and Bars. Thanks so much to the judges and best of luck to my fellow nominees. Special congrats to those who’ve been nominated for their work for Pellicle. I look forward to seeing you there on the night.

Very pleased to have some good news on the return from the school run this morning. I have been nominated for three British Guild of Beer Writers awards, which is incredible. As usual, my natural pessimism (and the quality of the shortlists) means that I'm not expecting to walk away with any of the awards, but I'm very pleased to be named one of the top 5 beer and cider writers in the country! That'll do for me. If you'd like to read some of my potentially award worthy work, then click a few of these links! Modern British Beer, my very personal 2021 opus on the state of British Beer in the 21st century, is currently on sale for £12 on the Campaign for Real Ale shop. A bargain for a book one reader described as "like having a conversation with me in the pub." https://lnkd.in/gxCSb2BA
