The colors of the seventies were pretty drab in comparison to those of the psychedelic sixties. The country was recovering from the turmoil of the Vietnam War, and the desire for peace and calm was reflected in the dark wood and warm earth tones of the period.Avocado Green and Harvest Gold were important colors (especially in appliances), and were frequently mixed with toned-down versions of sixties orange.

With the popularity of synthetic materials and dyes, the later part of 1960s, became known for its bright and bold colors. Strong colors were not new but it was the range and combination of these intense colors in detailed patterns that gave the later part of the 1960s a strong, visual energy and playful sensibility. I always loved this chart by Benjamin Moore. They all kind of seem similar in variation except for the 1960s sorry but those colors are ugly!
