Ulfilas (311 – 383 AD) was a Christian missionary to the Goths. His parents were enslaved by Goths and he may have been born into captivity. He converted many Goths, but he preached an Arian Christianity. He translated the Bible into the Gothic language. Fragments of his translation have survived, notably the Codex Argenteus held since 1648 in the University Library of Uppsala in Sweden.
