My husband was making these with my kids using pipe cleaners and then we went rogue and started crystallizing everything… like these evergreens and dried orange slices! I love the look of these and they aren’t plastic, so that’s always a win! Borax is still safe to add to the compost pile as well, so these are still compostable unlike plastic coatings.

That being said, the crystals will break off over time if not sealed with something like acrylic spray, which WOULD make them noncompostable—so we are just going to make these every year, which isn’t a big deal because it’s so fun!
