Resembling giant buttercups, Caltha polypetala (Giant Marsh Marigold)) is a herbaceous perennial prized for its clusters of large, brilliant golden flowers, up to 2 in. (5 cm). They boast up to 40 showy stamens in their center. Blooming from early spring to summer, they are held well above the foliage of long-stalked, rounded green leaves which tend to get smaller as they progress up the stem. We grow Giant Yellow and Giant Orange (pictured), as well as Coco Gold, White Swan, and Tango Mix (which is a filler not a focal like the others). Want to grow marigolds as a cut flower in your garden? Here are our recs:  1. Start your seed now! (If you’re in zone 3). Marigolds want 4-6 weeks before being planted out, and they are absolutely not frost tolerant, so don’t try and cheat the system.   2. If you’re sowing in small soil blocks, be sure to press the black/brown end of the marigold seed firmly into the block, as they have a tendency to shift a lot while germinating.
