Abstract: In this article, we illustrate the possibilities of manipulation offered by dubbing as ... more Abstract: In this article, we illustrate the possibilities of manipulation offered by dubbing as a modality of audiovisual translation with some examples extracted from the film The name of the rose, directed by the French Jean-Jacques Annaud (1986), and based on the novel by Umberto Eco Il nome della rosa (1980). Firstly, we will concentrate on the changes operated in the Italian version, which could be divided into different catego-ries. It is observed that the speech of the narrator is remarkably longer. By analysing the content of the sentences added, we can clearly hear the echoes of some passages of the novel and, in some instances, we can even find an utterance suspiciously similar to Eco’s bestseller. Some of the characters’ utterances are enlarged during the dialogues, and there is even a whole new scene. Secondly, we will examine the changes operated in the French ver-sion. If we take a look at the bibliography on community interpreting that has been published during the last decades, this will enable us to check to what extent this vision of the interpreter as a mediator is present in many of the works published on the field. The idea that the role inhabited by the interpreter requires more than just translate can be found in many of them. In this article, we intend to analyze the influence of this metaphor of mediation in the proposals made by researchers on this field and to check what has been its influence in research, practice and training.

Esta tesis doctoral realiza un acercamiento interdisciplinar (comunicativo, audiovisual y traduct... more Esta tesis doctoral realiza un acercamiento interdisciplinar (comunicativo, audiovisual y traductologico) al problema teorico de la consideracion de la adaptacion cinematografica dentro del ambito de la traduccion intersemiotica y lleva a cabo un estudio practico a partir de la adaptacion cinematografica de la novela "El nombre de la rosa" tomando en consideracion los textos originales de la novela (en italiano) y del guion cinematografico (en ingles) y las versiones resultantes de ambos textos en frances, ingles y espanol (en el caso de la novela) y del italiano, frances y espanol (en el caso de la pelicula). The most remarkable difficulty of audiovisual translation is related to the translation of dialog... more The most remarkable difficulty of audiovisual translation is related to the translation of dialogues, which are supposed to reproduce the features of a more or less spontaneous oral language. This paper aims to analyze the difficulties and the strategies adopted for the translation into Spanish of the film Entre les murs (2008). This film, which depicts the daily life of a group of students and their teachers, is known for being a reflection of a French social reality, namely the reality for young people who live in the suburbs, which constitutes a particular universe. From a linguistic point of view, this reality is defined by the use of an oral register, a language characteristic of young people and by the presence of slang, specially the so-called verlan.

In this paper we will expound the various text classifications proposed by different researchers and we will set out how this typologization can be used for didactic purposes. To this end, we will formulate a proposal of pedagogical activities aimed at reinforcing the learning process of the different text genres.
