Več kot polovica zaprtih oseb, ki letno na novo nastopijo kazen v slovenskih kazenskih ustanovah,... more Več kot polovica zaprtih oseb, ki letno na novo nastopijo kazen v slovenskih kazenskih ustanovah, je formalno zaznana kot 'povratniki'. Gre za tisti del zaprtih oseb, ki tovrstno kazen prestajajo vsaj drugič. Strokovnjaki večkrat zaprte osebe opredeljujejo kot specifično populacijo s sebi specifičnimi značilnostmi, sam pojav vračanja v kazenske ustanove pa imenujejo 'povratništvo'. V teoretičnem uvodu pričujočega dela avtorica združi različne opredelitve pojma 'povratnik', oblikuje pregled nekaterih značilnosti, ki jih 'povratnikom' pripisujejo različni avtorji, se nadaljne osredotočila na nekatere oblike družbenega odzivanja na pojav povratništva ter poskušala orisati njegovo mesto v družbi. Raziskovalni del je namenjen obravnavi pojava povratništva skozi oči večkrat zaprte osebe in njeni razlagi svojega življenjskega položaja. V raziskavi sta sodelovala dva sogovornika, oba formalno zaznana kot povratnika. Rezultati, ki jih je pridobila, prikazujejo mnoge specifične individualne značilnosti življenjskih potekov intervjuvancev.
In Search of Safety takes a close look at the sources of violence and conflicts in women's prison... more In Search of Safety takes a close look at the sources of violence and conflicts in women's prisons. As the reader will probably note, the authors distance themselves from the individual pathology approach to explaining interpersonal conflicts and violence, fo-cusing instead on unravelling the structural inequalities that shape conflict contexts in prisons. This approach reflects the authors' sociological perspective, as they tackle the topic by using gender, intersectionality, structural inequalities, life trajectories and capital as central conceptual investigative tools. The book has several overlapping goals. In addition to witnessing and documenting women's experiences with imprisonment, it offers a new analysis of the contemporary prison by reframing the question of trouble and violence as a further expression of broader societal inequalities. The reader should notice the absence of the increasingly present (in criminology, social sciences and public debates, as well) "security" and "dangerous criminal others" discourse. Rather than searching for dangerous prisoners, the book reveals broader violent and unsafe social structures that create interpersonal violence. The authors examine how intersectional inequalities and cumulative disadvantages are the root of prison conflict and violence. Women must negotiate these inequities by developing forms of prison capital (social, human, cultural , emotional and economic) to ensure their safety while inside. The authors also analyse how conflict and subsequent violence result from the gendered context of substandard prison conditions, inequalities of capital among those imprisoned, and relationships with correctional staff.

Imprisoned women are rather 'unproblematic', especially when compared with imprisoned men. However, the seemingly logical expectation of a less harsh prison regime for women is not always implemented and women are sometimes imprisoned in the same or even stricter regimes than men. This paper addresses the enforcement of prison sentences for women in Slovenia. Results of data analysis indicate that imprisoned women in the Slovenian prison system are generally (less) 'problematic', but the prison regime is disproportionately (increasingly) strict. The findings indicate that the Slovenian prison system plays a role in broader social mechanisms of gender-based discipline because imprisoned women are serving a double sentence: one for committing a crime and another for being a woman (who committed a crime).

V teoretičnem uvodu pričujočega dela avtorica združi različne opredelitve pojma 'povratnik', oblikuje pregled nekaterih značilnosti, ki jih 'povratnikom' pripisujejo različni avtorji, se nadaljne osredotočila na nekatere oblike družbenega odzivanja na pojav povratništva ter poskušala orisati njegovo mesto v družbi.
