Brandon T. McDonald
Brandon McDonald is a postdoctoral researcher and lecturer in the Department of Ancient Civilizations at the University of Basel. His research focuses on the ecological history of the Roman world, particularly the influence of climatic and environmental change and infectious diseases on economy and society. He has expertise in the environmental history of the ancient Mediterranean region, as well as the three major Roman pandemics - the Antonine Plague, the Plague of Cyprian, and the Justinianic Plague. He also has interest in ancient economy, Roman Anatolia, the Roman Near East, and Greek and Roman Egypt, as well as Greek and Roman agriculture and water management, paleoclimatology, and historical epidemiology. He completed his PhD at the University of Oxford, obtained his M.Phil from the same university and attended Columbia University for his BA.
