We used a probit model on Afrobarometer data (2021) to achieve this goal. This study was justified by the importance of money in the development process and follows current debates in the CEMAC zone about a single currency and the future of the franc of financial cooperation in Central Africa 1) (CFAF or XAF). It is natural for each country to have its own currency and monetary policy; hence, the government must explicitly choose to move toward monetary integration with other countries. To be rational, this choice must be primarily aimed at resolving one or more monetary issues encountered in managing the countries' monetary policies that cannot be optimally resolved

To achieve this goal, we utilized an econometric model based on the Krӧger and Hartmann (2021) decomposition approach. This study is warranted due to the significance of decreasing the size of the informal economy for economic growth, heightened tax revenues, safety, environmental preservation, and better work conditions. The African continent's economic crisis in the mid-1980s compelled several of its nations to implement structural adjustment programs (SAPs) under the guidance of the IMF and World

Based on a field survey of 1,475 individuals in the cities of Douala and Yaoundé, this research note seeks to understand the dynamics of the socio-economic forces that lead to the abandonment of parents’ religions. The econometric results reveal that the explanatory factors for changes in religious preferences often vary from one religion to another. With the exception of Pentecostals, Catholic, Protestant, and Muslim believers who believe that the religious market is rife with abuse are less likely to change their religious preferences. Increased income can significantly induce a change in religious preferences among Protestants and Pentecostals.

The analysis covers a sample of 4598 promoters of informal production units (UPI), obtained from the 2nd phase of the second survey on employment and the informal sector in Cameroon (INS, 2010). Based on the review of the economic literature, the econometric results obtained using a Probit estimation with selection bias reveal that entrepreneurs in the informal sector will be less inclined to adhere to a system of public social protection offering the following social benefits: old age insurance, invalidity insurance, family allowance and occupational sickness allowance.

Very small enterprises, especially in the informal sector, have always been overlooked in the literature, although they are in the majority in most countries. This paper aims to examine the effects of firm size on pro-environmental behavior adoption in Cameroon. The analysis focuses on a sample of 141,926 firms drawn from the Second General Census of Enterprises (RGE-2) in Cameroon (NIS, 2018). The study adopted a statistical and econometrical approach based on the logit model. The results showed that the adoption of pro-environmental behavior increases with firm size. The probability of having a health, safety, and environment system increases by 16.70 points in large enterprises compared to 8.40 points in small enterprises. The probability of having a wastewater management system increases by 5.30 points in large enterprises compared to 2.30 points in small enterpri...

The analysis is based on a sample of 7,464 women from the Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS 5) of Cameroon (NIS, 2015). Based on the literature on the demand for preventive health care, econometric results obtained using a decomposing differencesmodel based on Yun method, reveal that the HIV-AIDS screening rate of women living in rural areas is lower than that of women living in urban areas. Improvements in the level of economic well-being, demonstrated knowledge about HIV-AIDS, and education levels of rural women are likely to reduce this gap. On the other hand, having a child, knowing where to get tested for HIV-AIDS, or being an elderly person does no help reduce this gap.

The analysis focuses on a sample of 1 548 individuals living in the cities of Yaounde and Douala, contacted as part of a field survey. Inspired by theoretical and empirical literature, particularly in economics and sociology, the econometric results, obtained by using a multinomial logit model, reveal that the attractiveness of American Pentecostalism in Cameroon is further explained by the strong physical, financial and spiritual assistance available in the Pentecostal religious communities.2JEL Codes: D10, D23, D60, Z12.

The statistics used mainly come from the SODECOTON database, the World Bank Group Climate Change Knowledge Portal and Trading Economics. Econometric estimates made using a VAR model reveal that (i) the purchase price of seed cotton tends to significantly boost production, (ii) production does not significantly influence the purchase price of seed cotton, and (iii) the increase in the world price of cotton and significant variations in temperature are conducive to a revaluation of the purchase price of seed cotton. To improve cotton production, it would be advisable, in particular, to (i) make the purchase price of seed cotton mor...

This paper examines the effect of noise pollution regulations emitted by revival churches (RC) on surrounding populations’ well-being. The analysis focuses on a field survey sample of 726 individuals not belonging to RC and residing in the towns of Yaoundé and Douala, Cameroon. Drawing inspirations from the theoretical and empirical literature, the econometric results obtained with the nested logit model reveal that setting up a control plan against noise pollution produced by RC allows an increase in individuals’ well-being not belonging to RC. These surrounding populations are ready to pay USD 0.889 for the “the regulation of church service opening hours,” USD 0.831 for “the building of sound-proof places of worship,” and USD 0.466 for “the sensitization of RC’s officials on the bad effects of the noise pollution they produce.” To reduce noise pollution, public authorities must not...

The analysis concerns a sample of 8 African countries, more China, and covers the period 1995-2012. By using the data of the LEAD (2014) and Inheritance Foundation (2014), it seems that on average the African countries lag behind regarding creation of innovations with regard to China. The econometric results obtained by means of an analysis in data of panel show that the corruption, the technological infrastructures and human capital explain this delay.JEL Codes: O30, O57, N70

However, there is a growing evidence that contemporary energy systems are not able to provide energy to the entire population on a sustainable basis and at affordable prices. In the face of these challenges, renewable energy can play an important role, especially in rural areas where access to centralized electricity grids is difficult. This paper aims to examine the access gaps of enterprises to renewable energy between rural and urban areas in Cameroon. The analysis is based on a sample of 209,482 enterprises, taken from the Second General Census of Enterprises in Cameroon (RGE-2) carried out by the National Institute of Statistics (NIS). The econometric estimations, obtained using the Blinder-Oaxaca decomposition, reveal that access rate to renewable energy for firms in rural areas is lower than that of firms located in urban areas. An increase in the level of education of the promoter of an enterprise, ob...
