Una lágrima por cada pixel (2023), Dir. María Antonia Gómez.

THIS IS AN EARLY CUT NOT THE FINISHED PRODUCT.

This is my first time translating something so please let me know if there are any mistakes, thank you.

Yo, Daru here, I want to share this short film I watched two years ago during a talk with Víctor Gaviria (acclaimed Colombian director). When I saw it I thought that many people on this site might be interested in it so after 2 years I finally decided to put English subtitles on it. It was a graduation project by its director, who later refined it and submitted it to some short film contest, where it received great recognition.

Even during the talk, Víctor Gaviria praised it, as topics like virtual identity are rarely explored in the Colombian scene and have immense narrative potential. Unfortunately, this is not the version I saw during the talk, but a much earlier and shorter cut than the final one (you can tell by some editing mistakes, which are really common in early cuts of audiovisual projects). The version I saw during the talk was much better, longer and had more narrative elements like she saying she’s an actual pirate and playing with that through the film, but this is the only one publicly available thanks to the repository of the University of Antioquia, I still think it is good and pretty solid short film even though it is incomplete.

This short film led me to one of the greatest introspective experiences I’ve ever had because, to be honest, I saw myself on it. The truth is, I’m someone who loves looking back, just like the short film says. Hoarding files is one of my hobbies, I love exploring obscure corners of the internet to find new files about things I like. I started to reflect about the way I keep everything to myself without showing it to anyone, my reluctance to talk about these topics… all of this made me learn a lot about myself.

I searched for this short film again because I’m working on a script that touches on similar themes so I took the opportunity to share it here as I had thought a lot about this site when I saw it that time. My script doesn’t focus 100% on virtual identity, but it plays an important role in the story, and this short film is a solid reference. Plus, it’s Colombian, which makes it even more special (to me).

I hope you like it =)
