The availability of these proteins is crucial given the growing impact of climate, economic, and social variables. Indeed, these factors play a decisive role in the production and accessibility of plant-based proteins across countries. The study employed a causality analysis method using regression models to determine the relative impact of these factors on protein availability. Two indicators were prioritized: total national production and the daily accessible quantity per person. This approach made it possible to construct hypothetical trajectories, showcasing the interrelations between the different variables. The results show that the availability of plant-based proteins varies across regions. Factors such as rising temperatures, increasing pollutants, and rising prices of plant proteins are particularly concerning. In this context, legumes appear as a promising alternative. They offer resilience against climatic variations while being an excellent protein source. The findings also encourage rethinking our consumption. Meat, with its significant ecological footprint, should see its consumption decrease in favor of plant-based proteins, ensuring a more sustainable diet. To facilitate this transition, the importance of appropriate public policies and incentives for producing and consuming plant proteins is emphasized.

This study looked at maize, sorghum and soybean crops. The analyzes are based on climatological data for the period 1995-2015 and on statistics of area and production yield of selected crops over the same period. Food production mainly of rainfed type has experienced a gradual fall in yields and production volume in recent years. The results of analyzes reveal that the rainfall regime of the commune of Bohicon is bimodal with two rainy seasons (April to June and September to November) and two dry seasons (July to August and December to March). The evolution of rainfall over the period from 1995 to 2015 is irregular and the average temperature is increasing year by year. Although corn is heavily dependent on climatic factors, this is not the case for sorghum and soybean crops. The results of this study indicate that soybean and sorghum crops are less dependent on climate hazards than corn in this commune. For this reason, the maize growers of Bohicon very often indulge in either an intensification of the use of chemical fertilizers, an extension of cultivated land, or a readjustment of the agricultural calendar. It is therefore imperative to orient the dynamics in the direction of the adoption of new resistant and short cycle varieties in order to guarantee household food security and secure their income.

The data collected in this study come from two main sources. The first part of the data was collected from some vegetable producers cooperatives through semi-structured interviews and focus groups. Information gathering was conducted from north to south of Benin on nine different research sites with leaders of 54 producer associations through interviews. these groups were chosen in a reasoned way, ensuring that they are composed of both women and men. The second part of the data was obtained from the directions of the human resources departments of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries and completed by those obtained from the Ministry of Public Labor. The descriptive statistics were performed with the SPSS software. The discourse analysis was utilized as a method of analysis of all the information gathered from both producer groups that government institutions. This paper came out that women are involved in farmers associations as well as government institutions in connection with the agricultural sector. Although it is obvious, they are not sufficiently represented as men in these different entities and are not really involved in decision making processes. It is therefore imperative to bridge the gap between men and women in agriculture generally and market gardening especially. To this end, it is significant to develop policies and a regulatory framework to fight gender inequality. This will ensure equal access to resources, and the same support through agricultural programs and projects. In turn, this will improve women membership to farmers associations and their representativeness in government institutions.

This study aims to analyze the influence of the types of fertilizers on the economic performance of the market garden production in the town of Parakou. This study is specifically interested in the culture of carrot. To achieve this, a survey was conducted among sixty (60) farmers chosen randomly in this Municipality. The data collected were related to demographics and spending and revenue generation according to the types of fertilizers (chemical and biological). These data were collected on the basis of a questionnaire addressed to individually sampled producers. The information collected was analyzed using SPSS software v. 20. It follows that the carrot production is economically and financially profitable in the town of Parakou. Moreover, economic performance indicators calculated (net margin, average labor productivity, internal rate of return and the benefit/cost) indicate that organic fertilizers improve more the profitability of this production.

T... more Food safety has always been and continues to be a major concern for all countries of the world. This concern is all the more perennial in the developing countries like Benin with a low economic level and still rudimentary and extensive agriculture. To reduce a little bit of food insufficiency, is developed urban and peri-urban agriculture based mainly on market gardening. This study focused particularly on the production of onion in southern Benin. It aims to analyze its performance, to understand the importance of this activity but also to see what are the obstacles faced by these producers. Three municipalities were investigated: Grand-Popo, Cotonou and Sèmè-Kpodji. A total of 60 farmers were surveyed at 20 per municipality. Quantitative and qualitative tools were combined for the analysis of data collected through individual and group interviews. A joint analysis approach was used to achieve specific objectives. It consists to combine speech analysis, participant observation with statistical tools such as the frequency distribution, the regression model and calculation of performance indicators. It follows from all of these analyzes that onion production is profitable from a financial point of view. This performance is enhanced by factors such as age, experience and membership of a producer group. Similarly, the farmers claimed for majority that onion occupies a special place in their market garden production. This production improves their socioeconomic and food situations. However, the constraints that undermine the more onion production and thus constitute important producer concerns are financial, institutional, organizational, property constraints and those directly related to production. Farmers therefore, expect a little more effort from agricultural policies to improve the development of this sector.
