In achieving this purpose, quantitative and bibliometric content analysis methods were employed which studied 61 articles published in 24 international EDLM and educational-based journals. This review effort had examined general patterns of knowledge production, as well as research topics, production volumes, and methods employed by researchers in their deputy principals’ studies. Findings indicates that researchers from the United States, United Kingdom and Hong Kong have numbers of highest publication of articles on DPs’ knowledge production. Almost half of the topical foci covered on deputy principals are much related to roles and responsibilities, leadership and their professional and leadership development programs. Based on their methodological approach, qualitative case study with interviews, do...

The study is equally aims at investigating factors influencing faculty followership's perception of institutional leader in selected Malaysian institutions of higher learning. Online survey questionnaires were conveniently sent to 2560 faculties of 16 public universities sampled, using guidelines of 95% confidence interval and margin of error at ± 02% to collect the data. A confirmatory factor analysis was performed to test factorial validity and psychometric properties of the three constructs underlie the faculty followership's perception of institutional leader. It is anticipated that findings of the study will provide leaders of the institutions of higher learning with proper understanding of factors influencing faculty followership's perceptions of institutional leaders, which is critical to organizational performance and faculty retention. Furthermore, it is expected that the findings will contribute to the initiatives of empirical studies on followership especially in higher education sector. The study as being the first of its kind in Malaysian context to empirically evaluate psychometric properties of the scales underlie faculty followership's perception of institutional leader and investigate factors influencing faculty followership's perception of institutional leader using well experienced participants rather than inexperience participants of the previous studies which sampled university students, high school and company employees would be a remarkable contribution to the followership literature.

Data were collected using a revised SSEIT scale. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was conducted to assess the goodness of fit indices for the four-factor emotional intelligence construct: perceiving emotion, understanding emotion, facilitating emotion and managing emotion. CFA results of the SSEIT model demonstrated cross-cultural construct validity of the SSEIT scales, indicating a good fit for measuring EI. The composite reliability index (CRI) and average variance extracted (AVE) further revealed evidence of convergent reliability and validity for the EI sub-scales. The results of this study confirm the usefulness of SSEIT for assessing EI among undergraduate students and research in general. Implications for research are discussed.

The technology-embodied growth helps to attain both agendas through knowledge sharing and technology transfer, which trickle down to the poor income group and improve their living standards. Hence, the role of information and communication technologies (ICTs) is deemed crucial in boosting economic growth and is under deep consideration to establish its role in reducing poverty and environmental pollution. The current study examines the long-run relationship between ICTs, poverty reduction, and ecological degradation in Pakistan using time series data from 1975–2018. The short- and long-run parameter estimates were obtained through the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) model for robust inferences. The results substantiate the inverted U-shaped Environmental Kuznets Curve relationship between income and emissions with a turning point at US$1000 in the short-run and US$800 in the long-run. The results confirmed the decisive intervention of ICTs factors in the poverty reduction, i.e., computer communications and mobile-telephone-broadband subscriptions support to reduce poverty incidence with the mediation of inbound FDI in a country. As far as income inequality is concerned, it shows that computer services support minimizing income inequality via a channel of high–technology exports in a country. The technology embodied emissions verified in the long-run, where mobile-telephone-broadband subscriptions increase carbon emissions. Finally, mobile-telephone-broadband subscriptions and inbound FDI both are significant contributors to amplify the country’s economic growth. The results conclude that poverty reduction and environmental sustainability agenda are achieved by developing green ICT infrastructure in a country.

A total of 357 secondary school teachers provided feedback to a 26-item survey instrument on four basic principles of collegial supervision and teachers‘ growth. The findings reveal that senior teachers have more positive and higher levels of confidence that the practice of collegial supervision enhances teachers‘ relationships due to their broad exposure on the initial practice of collegial supervision. Based on the multiple regressions results, Malaysian secondary school teachers perceived that teachers have a significant influence on their growth compared to the other three major variables within the collegial supervision framework. The findings also demonstrate that CS is vital for enhancing instructional supervision in Malaysian public secondary school. The findings further reveal that teachers‘ gender was perceived to have significant differences in terms of teachers‘ growth with male teachers have a higher level of confidence towards the practice of collegial supervision in secondary schools compared to their female counterparts

This is the study to assess the licensing program impact on the professional qualities of UAE teachers. The perception survey was piloted with a group of teachers from random UAE schools. A survey method with valid tests and descriptive statistics were used to determine the self-evaluation of teachers in a wide range of competencies related to licensing. Teacher self-evaluate themselves during the test accentuates strong social competence, while professional qualities and professional growth received significantly lower scores. A strong direct correlation was found between test size and participants' experience. There was no correlation between the quality of the assessment and gender or age factors. The results of the study are aimed at helping government and academic policymakers to obtain feedback from teachers on educational reforms. Both the results of the study and the methods of its implementation can be expanded beyond the UAU due to the typological similarity of problems of licensing of teachers in different countries. The originality and novelty of the research is presented by the analysis of the subjective assessment of their results by teachers who passed licensing for the first time in the conditions of UAE, where the licensing system is in the process of formation. The findings of the study demonstrate the points of further development of the newly created teacher licensing system.

The study included 1,068 faculty members from eight HEIs. The findings showed that QC construct is represented by nine separate elements, whereas two factors index both ASP and EWC. Moreover, the findings established evidence of construct reliability and validity in relation to the elements comprised the three constructs. The findings indicated that quality culture and excellent work culture have direct impact on ASP. The findings also showed that excellent work culture exhibits indirect causal effect on academic staff performance. This empirical study analyzed the mediating effect of EWC on ASP, which has not been extensively examined in the context of Malaysian HEIs.

Using a pragmatic mixed-method, we obtained the viewpoints of 338 rural primary teachers on the effectiveness of PLC implementation within their schools. Furthermore, eight rural primary teachers were interviewed to explore the benefits and challenges of PLC in the sampled schools. The findings reveal that rural primary teachers feel contented with the PLC implementation within their schools. They note the benefits of the program as part of their effective professional development. Other benefits, such as the establishment of teachers' teamwork culture and the ability of the program to support teachers' learning process, were also addressed. PLC was also described as an effective knowledge-sharing platform. The findings also disclose some challenges such as lack of time, negative attitudes of teachers and financial constraints that impeded the effective execution of PLC at rural primary schools. The findings suggest improvements to the practices of rural primary schools.

Based on a qualitative research design, we adopted an exploratory design and applied in-depth interview method through purposive sampling for which eight novice principals were interviewed. The findings indicate that novice principals faced various problems such as isolation, time management difficulty, lack of position-related knowledge, failure to integrate theories with real practices, lack of experience in decision-making and problem solving, and inability to adapt to the culture at the new school. Such situations assert undue pressure on the novice principals to the extent of affecting their performance in the initial stage of their appointment as school administrators. These findings suggest that novice principals should attend the National Professional Qualification for Educational Leader course for exposure to theories of school leadership and management. In addition, the findings further suggest implementing socialisation and induction programs for novice principals prior to their appointment.

However, there is still lack of studies and instruments that evaluated the CS practice within Malaysian context. In measuring the suitability of CS practice in secondary schools in Malaysia, a questionnaire with 26 self-developed items that represent five sub-dimensions/constructs namely, collegial relations, teacher's province, teacher growth, teacher collaboration, and reflective inquiry was developed from series of interviews with secondary teachers. The major aim of this paper is to validate and examined the psychometric elements through the application of Rasch analysis in measuring items'-person reliability, principal component analysis, items-person distribution, fit and dimensionality analyses. The analysis was performed based on feedback of 357 teachers from secondary teachers. Findings revealed on high values on person-items reliability, and the items' difficulty are significantly aligned or matched with teachers' ability. Also, principal component analysis revealed an acceptable value of raw variance explained, and that most teachers agreed with most of the items through structure measurement on the items' validity. Thus, it is concluding on the internal consistencies of the items within Malaysian CS which later contributed to the CS items for Malaysian secondary schools.

Using a pragmatic mixed-method strand, we obtained 212 teachers and instructors' viewpoints on knowledge sharing factors and barriers. The study also interviewed four teachers in exploring college directors' leadership practices and issues faced while sharing their knowledge and experiences with their colleagues. The findings revealed that technical college teachers favoured enabling others to act as a preferable leadership practice that empirically supports their knowledge sharing practices. Thus, reward system and culture were antecedents and significant predictors for teachers' knowledge sharing practices in technical HLIs compared with their colleges directors' transformational leadership practices. Teachers also highlighted that their directors provide affirmative responses concerning the knowledge sharing activities; thus, practising their roles as a knowledge sharing catalysts. However, lack of support from the management, micro-politics and teachers' own negative perceptions were identified as challenges and constraints teachers encountered while sharing their knowledge with their peers. The findings put forward some suggestions for improvement on technical college's knowledge sharing practices.

A total of three headteachers were interviewed in examining and exploring challenges within the DL practices. The transcripts from the semi-structured interviews formed the basis of the findings.Findings– The findings suggest that senior teachers lack confidence in making decisions and rely on the consent from headteachers even though they are empowered to make their own decisions. Another significant issue faced by headteachers when distributing their leadership is the ability, expertise, experience, and willingness of teachers to hold leadership roles and responsibilities.Originality/value– The results are important since there have been few empirical studies on the issues and challenges faced by headteachers in practising DL approach in primary schools in the context of Malaysia. This initiative sidelines the traditional school leadership approach which emphasises on the accountability of headteachers as the sole school leader.
