incorrect-green-lantern-quotes:

Ollie has definitely made it his mission to make all of the Green Lanterns of Earth try his infamously spicy chili. The GLs in turn have made it a tradition to not warn each new member of their group before they eat it for the first time.

Hal: complains about the spice level all the time but has developed a tolerance after years of friendship with Ollie

Guy: dies every time but is too stubborn to admit defeat, even as his face turns the same color as his hair

John: genuinely enjoys the stuff and asked Ollie for the recipe to share with his mom

Kyle: tried it once and thought he was going to die, will make any excuse to avoid eating it again. Roy and Connor give him so much shit for this

Simon: can handle the heat without any trouble, he just doesn’t like chili in general

Jessica: doesn’t think it’s spicy enough and will dump extra hot sauce on top. Lian is in awe

Jo: unbothered by the spice but told Ollie that it tasted burnt

the thing about cracking open a long-established popular ship tag on ao3 is that it allows you to be extraordinarily picky, and i think it must be the closest thing i will ever experience to being filthy rich. i scroll along at super speed like no today i am only interested in fics with this precise range of words and one of these three tags. only authors i’ve heard of, please. hmm, i suppose i could consider an unknown quantity given its apparent popularity with the people, but… no, no, this summary doesn’t do it for me. no particular reason, it’s just… eh, i don’t need to explain myself. bring me 50 more like this for me to choose from and we’ll see.

someone just lamented that their new pairing has only 5000 works (“where’s the rest of them?”) which is approximately the size of the pairing i was celebrating in the original post, and it really threw into relief that it’s impossible for us to even conceptualize the extravagance of a true scrooge mcduck fandom if we’ve never been in one. i am a reasonably well-off dentist who takes her family to cancun once a year.

state of the union update at 45k. my unscientific analysis reports a fairly even breakdown between:

  • people crying in the gutter
  • people crying in a 2-bedroom bungalow
  • the nouveaux riches (steddie fans)
  • these guys:
two missionaries at a door with a speech bubble added that says "#op have you considered destiel"ALT

bonus shout out to:

  • very picky people crying from their summer home in the hamptons
  • the 4 people who think i’m actually a dentist

I think I intentionally gravitate towards rarepairs. Just to keep from being overwhelmed.

If anyone has taken their eyes off what’s happening to federal workers in the US right now, here’s some highlights that we’re hearing from our comrades across the government who have not yet been fired:

  • In one building (hosting multiple agencies), the locks on the bathroom were changed so employees no longer have any access to a bathroom during the workday. People are peeing in trash cans.
  • Elsewhere, multiple agencies have reported that hand soap is no longer being supplied in the bathrooms.
  • Toilet paper supplies have not been adjusted to meet the needs of a vastly increased number of in-office employees.
  • Employee-owned coffee and coffee makers have been stolen or thrown away without notice (it was already illegal for taxpayer dollars to be spent on supplying federal employees with amenities like coffee, so many offices have coffee supplied by pooled employee funds).
  • Meanwhile, many offices don’t even have potable drinking water (recurrent legionella outbreaks), so employees have to bring their own water from home.
  • Despite an explosion in the number of workers in offices, cleaning budgets have been slashed and many offices are not being cleaned regularly enough to remain sanitary. Pests like roaches and rats are a problem.
  • The firings continue, legal and illegal. Entire programs are being cut. Managers have no idea when they might lose staff. Employees are getting fired at 6pm on a weekend or finding out when they’re unable to log into their computer or when they receive a shipping label in the mail to return their equipment.
  • Through all of this, the DOGE employees in federal workplaces are enjoying incredible and expensive luxury: AI-powered sleep pods, entire dormitories so they can live in federal buildings, nurseries for their children on site, free food and beverages, laundry services, and who knows what else. They have special security to restrict access to their areas of the buildings, including armed guards.

And I’m not just saying this to lament how bad it is for federal workers. I’m saying this because, as workers are reporting this to one another, the response is, inevitably: “This is illegal.” “Yes, but who would I report it to? OPM? They’re a DOGE puppet. OSHA? They’ve cut OSHA. The Inspectors General? Cut. The NLRB? Cut. My union? No longer recognized.”

There is no one left to enforce these laws, so taking away access to basic sanitation is now effectively legal. They are doing this to federal workers, who historically have been some of the best-protected workers in the country. They are doing this specifically because it demonstrates to the public sector that it is now legal to do these things to their own workers.

How many works do you have on AO3?

302

What’s your total AO3 word count?

5,012,937

Some of these were co-written but still when I went to check for this and found I’d finally passed the 5 million mark I was super psyched. I’d been approaching it for a while lol.

Your Top 5 stories by kudos

  1. the forest is dark and deep and i’ve seen you here before
  2. Its Not the End of the World (But It Might as Well be the End of Your World): This one will forever crack me up because I literally thought 2 other people were going to get a chuckle out of it when I wrote it. Still gets weekly kudos 10 years later (Wait *record scratch* ten years??? Yeah I started posting in 2015. Did not see that coming/had not processed that)
  3. My Downfall is Rooted in Your Desperate Need
  4. Looks Can be Deceiving, Even if You’re on the Right Track (Technically it’s Two Sides of the Coin but that’s a co-written one so I’m going with my next down one)
  5. I Won’t Move the Heaven’s for You and You’ll Pretend to Forget Me

Okay I do love the fact that it’s like “the forest is dark and deep is an outlier and should not have been counted” because everything else is DCU.

Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

I try! It’s rough in my inbox right now so I’ve started just opening up stories and replying to all the comments on them straight on to try and tame the inbox down. You might be two years late but I’m getting there.

Honestly, sometimes people tell me I don’t have to and I’m like “No, I’m gonna–eventually” not because I feel like I must, but because I like to! Author’s talk about their love of comments all the time, but it’s the love of the conversation, and sometimes having that back and forth reveals new and fun things about your story too. I love comments and replying, I just, sometimes get to a point where it’s “you either get a reply or an update” and then I do that too many times in a row and the inbox becomes ungovernable.

Do you write crossovers?

I used to. I’ll still enjoy a good fusion au, but I rarely straight up cross over characters anymore. They’re fun thought experiments though, trying to figure out how different worlds would collide.

Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Yes. What kind? I don’t know, whatever kind serves the plot. I’m not a PWP writer, let’s put it that way. It’s more “if this fits the purpose of the story or emotional arc, I’ll write it.” Very rarely do I just because… though that happens randomly sometimes.

Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Yes. In both the straight up plagiarism way and in the someone reposted my fic to wattpad and said their friend (with a totally different name) wrote it.

Have you ever had a fic translated?

Yes! Though some of them seem to have disappeared off ao3 over the years which is too bad. But I remember some were Chinese and some were Russian. A few podfics too! And let me tell you, nothing is better than that feeling, but also hearing someone read my own words does send me immediately scurrying to hide under my bed.

Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Hmmm idk. @meddalarksen? Have I ever co-written a fic before?

(The answer is yes).

What’s your all time favorite ship?

Uhhhh… depends on the day but an evergreen classic is Spock/McCoy

What’s a WIP that you want to finish but probably never will?

Hold My Hand Under the Rust and the Dust will probably never get finished. Unless I figure out how to do something totally different with it than I originally planned.

What are your writing strengths?

Logistics, according to multiple people. Smut for the aces. Making people cry.

What are your writing weaknesses?

Staying on task.

What’s a fandom/ship you haven’t written for yet, but want to?

I never have written a single Legends of Tomorrow fic, despite talking about multiple ones.

What’s your favorite fic that you’ve written?

That’s a pretty impossible question lolol.

At the moment? The fic I’m incredibly proud of: to gain, to lose

The fic that gave me something no other fic has/I have probably reread the most: Only Break What’s Yours

The fic that taught me I could do it: Find the Sun in the Corners of Shadows

The fic that fundamentally changed me as a person: the forest is dark and deep and i’ve seen you here before
