Trump’s desire to get Greenland is a direct attack on indigenous lands and it needs to be framed this way a lot more. Greenlandic Inuit make up about 90% of Greenland’s population; they’re frequently under attack from Denmark’s government and now they’re facing the US president threatening war just to tear their lands apart.

Greenlandic Inuit face many of the same issues that other indigenous groups face under colonialist powers (and Denmark IS a colonialist power), such as loss of language and cultural identity, forced displacement, extremely high poverty and suicide rates, attacks on their lands for its natural resources, and ongoing battles for sovereignty.
Current battles for Greenlandic Inuit involve trying to get full control over mining rights in Greenland, reviving cultural practices like traditional fishing, and keeping custody of their children. Greenlandic Inuit parents face Danish-centered parenting tests, often in Danish which many of those parents can’t speak and based around Danish parenting styles, and Inuit children are disproportionately removed from their families and placed in Danish households. Which is a form of cultural genocide for anyone who isn’t aware.

Both major seats in this election were won by Dems!! Susan Crawford won the Supreme Court seat by a 10% margin, which is huge!!
Please, pay attention to your local and state elections because under this federal government, your local politicians and judges are the ones who can decide what rights you get and the biggest ticket on the ballot for every upcoming election right now is abortion access!
ok so these new tariffs are likely going to be primarily affecting red states. i want y’all to ignore the urge to respond by saying the people in those red states deserve it because of the political representation we have. not because some of us are progressives but because this is an opportunity. if conservatives from these states start complaining about higher prices and financial strain, do not respond with “well you voted for this!” this is your opportunity to pull them to the center. say “wow that is really awful. i’m sure this isn’t what you wanted when you voted last year. you deserve representatives that will have your best interests at heart, you should let them know how upset you are! you deserve to be heard!”
because listen to me. republican politicians don’t give a shit about what progressives in red states have to say. they aren’t gonna change their voting trends for us. but if a bunch of small town conservatives start to get restless and angry with their politicians, if they lose support from their most important demographics, that has a shot at changing things. so swallow your pride and disgust and have a conversation with that republican truck driver instead of taking the pot shot that’ll get you 10 minutes of dopamine. do the hard work.

yup. the republican party’s big pull is that they’re very good at pointing the finger at xyz minority group to blame them for the country’s ills. people like to know who to blame. conservatives especially like to know who to blame because very often they are not educated enough to understand what the actual problems are, because conservative politicians do not prioritize education.
so with the trump administration doing such a phenomenally horrible job at everything, now is the time to give those conservatives a group to blame. gas prices skyrocketing? trump isn’t following through on his promise to lower gas prices and i’m pretty sure those tariffs he imposed are why! groceries getting way too expensive? trump promised to make them cheaper but he’s doing the opposite!
if their options are imploding with embarrassment and having their entire worldview fall apart or ignoring reality, they’ll choose ignoring reality. if they have a third option of getting mad and blaming someone, that is the one they have been trained to choose. use that.

I live in the fucking Bible Belt. This place is so atrociously red that I am the weirdest person that most of the people I know have ever met.
I’m not even the weirdest person I’ve ever met. But we are few and far between.
And I’m telling you, they are angry about the same exact things we are. They just have a different narrative.
Now, FINALLY, we are coming to a point where there won’t be anyone else to blame properly EXCEPT the people in power.
And nothing, NOTHING, makes these guys listen closer than when you point out it was their special guy who did this to begin with and doesn’t that make you angry? This fucker lied to us!

I’ve talked about this before but I wish so desperately that there was more accessible criticism and discussion of cults and anti-science rhetoric (vaccines are evil, meditation cures cancer, homeopathy, etc) coming from people other than ex-fundamentalist Christians. Like so many podcasts and youtube series start out okay and then just descend into “all religion is stupid and you’re in a cult if you believe in any diety ^-^” and it’s exhausting.
People will be like, “I think all religions are evil and violent and ultra controlling cults and I came to this conclusion from growing up as an American fundamentalist Christian. This is definitely an accurate reflection of all religion ever and not just me projecting my own specific experiences and religious trauma onto the entire world. The things I say about other religions will be deeply antisemitic, islamophobic, racist, and ableist but I will deny that to my last breath because religion is bad and stupid and everyone needs to know.”

If you insist on referring to other cultures’ spirits and folklore figures as fairies, demons, angels, etc even when you’re told that those terms aren’t accurate or that those spirits have their own names, then I really just want you to think about why you’re only able to conceptualize spirituality and culture through a European and Christian lens.
“Calling indigenous spirits fairies is not that big of a deal 🙄” Not to you, but it is to people whose cultures have always been measured against European cultures and found wanting.

My roommate thought she hated cooking and then she moved in with me and started using knives that were actually sharp and realized cooking is fun. Sometimes I wonder how many other situations are like this. It’s not you, or your skills. It’s just the lack of correct tools. Everyone knows you need a knife in the kitchen but no one mentions a sharpening stone.
Also you should probably sharpen your knife.
Speaking less metaphorically I literally do wonder how many people would realize Cooking Doesn’t Suck if only they had sharper knives. Cutting vegetables is not supposed to be a workout. You’re not supposed to apply force when you press down. If you have to force the knife down then the knife is dull! This is a fixable problem!
