Robert James
I engage students in class discussions via the Socratic method of critical inquiry. Together we explore the interpretation of history from diverse points of views and the ethical choices that influenced significant historical events. My students write reviews of public history found in museums, monuments, and historic sites. This place based learning gives students an appreciation of how history impacts our lives today. Their primary assignment is a research paper with a provocative thesis with supporting evidence from primary and secondary sources. An oral presentation on their research gives them an opportunity to improve public speaking skills.
