Jefferson Park is a public park located in Bakersfield, California.

History

Land for the park was purchased by the city on May 24, 1921. On August 22, the land was incorporated into the city's park system (the same day as Central Park). The same day, the bid from MacRorie and McLaren Company was accepted for its development. This also represented part of Bakersfield's early development of East Bakersfield (formerly Sumner and Kern City) which was annexed in 1910.

Amenities

Jefferson Park is one of the more equipped parks in the city. It contains one reservable picnic area with lights, barbecue, and a sheltered serving area. There are several other picnic areas, each serving between 8 and 16 people. Most also have a barbecue. There are four lit basketball courts, two lit tennis courts, and lit horseshoe pits. There is also a large open grass area suitable for many lawn sports. There are also two swimming pools and a spray park. One is for general use while the other is for children. There are also restrooms and a playground.

Jefferson Park Transit Center

The Jefferson Park Transit Center is an intermodal passenger transport center, in the Jefferson Park neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. It serves as a station for rail and also as a bus terminal. Jefferson Park Transit Center's railroad station is on Metra's Union Pacific/Northwest Line, with the station located at 4963 N. Milwaukee Avenue. Jefferson Park is 8.7 miles (14.0 km) away from Ogilvie Transportation Center in downtown Chicago, the inbound terminus of the Union Pacific/Northwest Line. Under Metra's zone-based fare system, Jefferson Park is in zone B. The station is part of a larger transit center that also includes an 'L' station on the Chicago Transit Authority's Blue Line, as well as a bus station. The segment for the 'L' is a surface level station with a single island platform, located in the median of the Kennedy Expressway at 4917 N. Milwaukee Avenue. Blue Line trains run at intervals of 2–7 minutes during rush hour, and take 25 minutes to travel to the Loop. This was the terminal for Blue Line trains once the service was extended from Logan Square. The line was extended from Jefferson Park, but some weekday rush hour trips end here.
