Wonders of Whump

Whump is a wondrous thing
I don’t know how to run a blog but please enjoy whatever chaos happens here

Does anyone else out there prefer whumperless whump? I feel like I'm alone out here. Don't get me wrong, whumpers are still lovely fun, but there's something so delicious about the unforgiving cruelty of happenstance. There's something about the cold indifference of accidents, the wilderness, battlefields, illness, etc, that enthrall me in a way that a malicious individual whumper cannot. And don't even get me STARTED on self-inflicted whump (hidden injuries, overexertion, and self-deprivation will always be my bread and butter). I think it's the hopelessness of it, and the way it shifts the focus onto the whumpee's inner thoughts and/or their caretakers'.

Sure, you can punch a whumper. But you can NEVER punch the cruelty of the universe itself <3

Who's with me?

This gets me curious actually. I doubt you're alone in that preference so let's find out!

Okay since the post about death in whump is going around quite a lot and I'm seeing different statements in the comments, I am curious as to how the percentages balance out

For me personally, definition wise, the aftermath of a whump scene is not relevant to the whump part (the injury, or getting sick) before it. That's because I define whump as solely the hurt part in hurt/comfort. Even though I pretty much only consume whump content with a good ending, and vastly prefer it

I know that there's absolutely something to be said about how death of a character can be whump material for someone else, but in this case I'm just solely talking about the character the scene is about.

This poll also assumes that whatever happens before the death is an injury or illness of some kind, and the scene is not solely character dying.

The Tomorrow People 1.12 episode “Sitting Ducks”

Character: John Young, performed by Luke Mitchell

Type of whumps: under gunfire and shot, bloody and weak, grunting and sweating, treated on the field and passed out, bullet removed and moaning, rescued and recovering.

Ah yes my favorite pass time: rereading incomplete fics from my bookmarks that haven't been updated in years just to torture myself with how good and incomplete they are

i’ve had the slow horses brainrot for all of two weeks and like. it may be small but it’s one of the fandoms of all time for a whump enjoyer. everyone collectively looked at river cartwright and said i’m going to put that man in a blender and he’s going to like it. i’m obsessed
