Background: Postural malalignment is generally the cause of work-related musculoskeletal disorders among office workers. Scapula plays several roles in facilitating optimal shoulder function and it is very important for function of the upper extremity. Alterations in the normal position of the scapula and the patterns of scapular motion during scapulohumeral movements is defined as scapular dyskinesis. Methods: 36 office workers were participated to this study. Lateral Scapular Slide Test (LSST) was used to evaluate the scapular dyskinesis. For evaluation activities and functionality of upper extremity of individuals , the shortened version of the Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand questionnaire (QuickDASH) was used. Neck Disability Index (NDI) was used for functional evaluation of the neck. Visual analogue scale (VAS) was used for assessing the severity of pain. Results: As a results, 41,7 % of office workers have positive lateral scapular slide test while 58,3 % of them ha...

The upper extremity tasks require the energy originated from proximal to distal continuity as a kinetic chain of movement. The scapula is very important for this chain because of its connection of the limb to the torso. Dysfunction of scapula or scapular dyskinesis then could lead to tissue injury and pain developed in upper quarter region. The faulty scapular alignment is related to changes of surrounding muscle properties to be in shortened or elongated length. These might be associated with neck, shoulder and scapular pain because altered force loading and transferring. Scapular dyskinesis can be classified into four subtypes depended on the position and motion of the scapula bone. However, the relationship between subtypes of scapular dyskinesis and axioscapular muscle adaptations along with postural of upper quarter deviations is still unclear. The purpose of this study is to identify axioscapular muscle adaptations and postural deviations in symptomatic office workers with diff...

Objective: The primary objective was to assess and to calculate the prevalence of scapular dyskinesia in bankers. The secondary objective was to check the association of scapular dyskinesia, BMI Kg/m2 and with the sex of the participants Methods: This study is an observational cross-sectional type and sample size taken was of 101. Non-probability judgment sampling was used and research was carried out at the district of Gujrat and Gujranwala. Test used to identify scapular dyskinesia was lateral scapular slide test, DASH questionnaire was used and pain was measured using numerical pain rating scale. Results: According to the results among the total participants of 101 only 26 participants (25.7%) were recorded to be positive and the rest 75 (74.3%) were negative. Conclusion: It was concluded that bad postural habits somehow had an impact on the musculoskeletal condition of the worker specifically in the office sittings which might lead to scapular dyskinesia. Keywords: Scapular Dysk...

Background: Professional bus drivers report a high prevalence of upper quadrant musculoskeletal pain which could be associated with scapular dyskinesis (SD). However, the evidence for valid and reliable screening methods for this condition is limited as SD among bus drivers is an emerging area of research. Therefore, the main aim of the study was to investigate the reliability of dynamic scapular motion test (DSMT) using video analysis as an accurate method to evaluate SD and to identify patterns of SD among bus drivers. Methods: In total, 32 bus drivers from a private bus company with unilateral upper quadrant musculoskeletal pain participated in the study. The DSMT was conducted and the SD was captured in the video during shoulder flexion–abduction movements. Two investigators analyzed the video recordings and identified the patterns of SD. The intra- and interrater reliability were determined using the percentage of agreement and weighted Kappa coefficients (Kw). Descriptive anal...

Background: Scapular dyskinesia is the most common prevailing disorder in which there is alteration of the glenohumeral rhythm, thus paving the pathway to various musculoskeletal pathologies associated with the upper extremity. It is caused by the muscular imbalance thereby causing a change in the torque and ultimately the kinematic chain of the upper limb. A study of the prevalence of the same will help to work on the rehabilitative strategies by identifying the early symptoms and hence enable an early intervention. Objective: To assess scapula dyskinesia in healthy individuals between the age of 25-35 years Method: An observational(non-experimental) study was conducted on 100 healthy individuals between the age of 25 to 35 years. Ethical clearance from the committee of the institution and consent from participants was taken. Participants were screened, after which the lateral scapular slide test was performed following which they were asked to fill in the DPA scale. Results: From the study it was revealed that there was prevalence of scapular dyskinesia in healthy individuals between the age of 25-35 years, with women showing a greater prevalence of the same. Conclusions: There was prevalence of scapular dyskinesia in healthy individuals between the age of 25-35 years, thus can be used as a baseline strategy for rehabilitation programmes.

Prevalence of musculoskeletal symptoms and quality of life in housekeeping workers of a tertiary care hospital in Navi Mumbai, India: A descriptive study. MGM J Med Sci 2020;7:133-40. Abstract Context: Prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) in India is 90%, leading to loss of working hours, poor quality of life (QoL), and reduction in productivity of the life of the employers. Housekeeping profession, considered a major workforce industry, requires manual labor demanding awkward postures and repetitive movements, leading to MSDs and impacting QoL. Objectives: The objective of this study was to find the prevalence of the symptoms of MSDs and QoL in the housekeeping workers of the hospital. Settings and Design: A descriptive study was carried out among housekeeping workers of MGM Hospital, Kamothe, Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. Materials and Methods: With Cornell Musculoskeletal Discomfort Questionnaire (CMDQ) and WHO-QOL-BREF scale, 82 housekeeping workers were contacted, and an interview-based session was held. Statistical Analysis: Descriptive analysis and graphical representation were carried out using MS Excel. Results: Of the participants, 68.29% were females with a mean age of 42.28 ± 7.4 years, and 31.70% were males with a mean age of 42.04 ± 8.3 years. The prevalence of the symptoms of MSDs was higher in knees followed by lower back and lower leg. Females (80.36%) were affected more than males (61.54%). WHOQOL-BREF for QoL showed a moderate impact without much gender difference. Conclusion: The study concluded that there is a high prevalence of the symptoms of MSDs in housekeeping staff, more likely in the lower back, knee, and lower leg, and WHO QOL-BREF shows comparable mean scores among males and females. Keywords: Global burden of disease, housekeeping workers, musculoskeletal disorders, quality of life Key messages: Studies addressing the influence of MSDs and QoL on the housekeeping workforce of hospitals are scarce and data addressing the same helps to spread more awareness on areas needing attention and prevention programs needed for this population.

The article analyzes a new edition of the book by the famous Franciscan ambassador to the Mongols, John de Plano Carpini (1182–1252), who made a long journey from Lyon to Central Mongolia in 1245–1247 where he witnessed the enthronement of the khagan Guyuk (1246–1248). Following the results of his difficult and dangerous journey, he wrote a report “The History of the Mongols,” in which he described quite fully and accurately what he saw and heard. The work of Plano Carpini was published in Russian three times: in 1795, 1825 and 1911; the last translation, made by A.I. Malein, was then published more than once and gradually overgrown with comments. However, all these editions cannot be considered fully satisfying the requirements of publishing medieval sources. The new edition in question here meets the standards of modern science. It includes an introductory part, a critical text of the source, its new translation into Russian and detailed comments made by professional medievalist historians. In the comments, various aspects of the Central Asian civilization of the XIII century, with which the Franciscan mission had a chance to come into contact, are covered as fully as possible: material and spiritual culture of nomads, organization of their society, military affairs and many others. Despite the high level of preparation of this publication, some points in it do not exclude an alternative interpretation.
