Hartmann Schedel’in İstanbul Görünümleri

Hartmann Schedel’in Dünya Tarihi matbaanın icat edildiği 15. yüzyılda üretilen baskı eserler arasında en tanınmışlardan bir tanesidir. 1493 yılında sipariş üzerine Latince olarak kaleme alınmış, aynı yıl içerisinde Almanca çevirisi de yayımlanmıştır. Bu kitabın içerisinde çok sayıda kenti betimleyen gravürler de bulunmaktadır. En gösterişli gravürlerden birkaç tanesi de İstanbul’u yansıtmaktadır. Diğer yandan 1800’e yakın gravür arasında İstanbul’a gösterilen ilgi sınırlı olmuş, bu görünümlerle ilgili az sayıda araştırma yapılmıştır. Türkçe olarak yayınlananların sayısı özellikle kısıtlıdır. Bazı yayınlardaki yerleşmiş hataların da düzeltilmesi gerekmektedir. Liber Chronicarum İstanbul açısından çok erken ve önemli bir görsel kaynak niteliği taşımaktadır. İstanbul hakkında farklı kaynaklardan edindiği bilgileri farklı kompozisyonlar içinde yansıtması açısından daha da büyük önem arz etmektedir. Bu görünümler çeşitli araştırmacılar tarafından incelenmiş ve yorumlanmış olmakla birlikte yapılan her araştırma yeni bilgiler katabilmektedir. Eserin 525’inci yılında Schedel’in Dünya Tarihi, hala yeni bilgilerle araştırmalara katkıda bulunabilmektedir.
Frāy in Seven Documents from the Pahlavi Archive of Hastijan

In this article, seven documents from the Pahlavi Archive of Hastijan have been examined. All seven documents are housed in the Bancroft Library of the University of Berkeley. Three documents, Berk. 35, Berk. 162, and Berk. 33A, were published for the first time by Gignoux (2010 and 2003), but the present writer tried to revise them and complete the unread words, correct the misreadings, and achieve a better translation. Other documents-Berk. 169, Berk. 12, Berk. 17, and Berk. 170 (a small fragment)-are published for the first time in this article. The common feature of these documents is that a person named Frāy is present in all of them. Frāy is a famous person in the Pahlavi Archive of Hastijan, and we can see his name in 38 documents. The early document, Tehran C, was written in the year 32 (32 years after the death of Yazdgird III), and the last document, Berk. 8, was written in the month Spandarmad (12th month) of the year 49.

The Butzer-Kozakiewicz article on Riemann derivatives of 1954 and its influence

The article on Riemann derivatives by P. L. Butzer and W. Kozakiewicz of 1954 was the basis to generalizations of the classical scalar-valued derivatives to Taylor, Peano, and Riemann derivatives in the setting of semigroup theory. The present paper gives an overview of the 1954 article, describes its influence, and integrates it into the literature on related problems. It also describes the state of the mathematics department at McGill University where the article was written.
