At the end of the 4th cent. Ravenna was still a small Roman city. The elevation at Imperial See gave the city a strength input to became a spectacular capital and at the end o the same century reached its maximum monumental phase. Churches, aristocratic residences, bridges, roads and warehouses along the river ports were supplied with goods of all kinds, coming from any area of the Mediterranean Sea and from the most remote areas of the former Roman world. The reference model of these constructions is Constantinople with architects probably enrolled within the Adriatic Sea area. In this contribution we will try to show with archaeological evidence, material and visual culture, which was the role played by this new city in a major frame of Late Roman and Early Medieval Mediterranean Sea.
That democracy is in crisis is a truism today. In recent years, many commentators have identified the disintegration of truth and facts as the core threat to democratic societies, and accordingly call for restoring our political sense of reality. In turn, this workshop proceeds from the conviction that we face at least as severe a crisis of our political sense of possibility: a crisis of political imagination. It has become increasingly difficult to even imagine democratic politics and democratic futurity differently, that is, significantly departing from the status quo of the minimal model of present, liberal western democracy. The infamous TINA dictum emblematically attests to the outright rejection of political creativity under the hegemony of neoliberal capitalism. While democratic creativity withers away, progressive change seems to be outsourced to the field of technology, in terms of planned and anticipable 'innovation'. This is all the more fatal in times of ecological disaster, where democratic political action is increasingly challenged by calls for establishing 'authoritarian environmentalism', often accompanied with technocratic ideas of climate engineering.
Toplumsal Bellekte Bir Akdeniz Liman Kenti: İzmir, 2024

Introduction : Literature has shown the effects of intravenous/intracoronary nicorandil on increased myocardial salvage in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) treated with mechanical reperfusion. However, the possible cardioprotective effect of oral nicorandil on the clinical outcome prior to primary coronary angioplasty is not well documented. Our aim was to assess the effect of oral nicorandil on primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PPCI). Methods: A total of 240 patients with acute STEMI undergoing PPCI were randomly assigned to oral nicorandil (Intervention, n=116) and placebo (Control, n=124) groups. The intervention group received 20 mg oral nicorandil at the emergency department and another 20 mg oral nicorandil in the catheterization laboratory just before the procedure. The control group received matched placebo. Our primary outcome was ST-segment resolution ≥50% one hour after primary angioplasty. Secondary outcome was in-hospital major ...

This paper examines the Christ-centered rhetoric of King Philip the Fair’s counselor Guillaume de Nogaret, first in a set of texts produced to justify Nogaret’s action against Boniface VIII at Anagni, and, second, in royal documents produced in the course of the Templar affair. "Negocium Christi", a key-concept used by Nogaret for his fight against Boniface’s heresy and evil intentions, was then applied to the French king’s supposedly providential action against the Knights Templar. It is suggested that Nogaret’s frenzied efforts to challenge his excommunication by pope Benedict XI resulting from the attack at Anagni led to the opening of the Templar case and thus further catalyzed a pontificalization of the French monarchy.
