SummaryThe essence of this paper is to undertake an investigation of the recent Canadian Prairie drought by employing total water storage anomalies obtained from gravity recovery and climate experiment (GRACE) remote sensing satellite mission. In order to successfully retrieve average terrestrial water storages from gravity measurements, a necessary procedure is to undertake the transformation of the GRACE geopotential spherical harmonic coefficients into spatially varying time series of geopotential heights that were subsequently converted into water equivalent amounts. These obtained GRACE-based total water storages were thereafter validated using storages estimated from the atmospheric-based water balance P - E computation in conjunction with the measured streamflow records for the Saskatchewan River Basin at its Grand Rapids outlet in Canada. Interestingly, the results from this study corroborate the potential of GRACE-based technique as a veritable tool for the characterization of the 2002/2003 Canadian Prairie droughts. Especially, this approach would prove resourceful for other regions globally where soil moisture availability is sparing or worst still, inexistent thereby making such studies impossible.

jansenists gradually liquidated the middle solution of a molinizing thomism.

Le présent article tente de suivre l’évolution des différents courants au temps de la crise de 1655-1657 en utilisant les textes contemporains de Blaise Pascal comme observatoire et en montrant comment les jansénistes ont peu à peu liquidé la solution moyenne d’un thomisme molinisant.

Discussions of the parable of the workers in the vineyard (Mt. 20.1-16) tend to rely on two key assumptions: (1) the parable eliminates ‘merit’ and replaces it with ‘grace’. (2) The parable is the hermeneutical key to all of Matthew’s other discussions of rewards, if not the entire New Testament. This article challenges these assumptions and offers a reassessment of divine recompense in Matthew. Mt. 19.16-20.16 does not set aside ‘merit’ in place of ‘grace’ but contrasts generous wages faithfully repaid by God with even more generous wages. The Gospel as a whole emphasizes that disciples must earn treasure in heaven and forgive others their debts to enter the kingdom; those who refuse to work and who refuse to forgive will be damned. At the same time, however, God’s repayment of deeds is not according to strict desert, but goes far beyond what workers have earned.

This paper demonstrates estimation of time-varying gravity harmonic coefficients from GPS data of COSMIC and GRACE satellite missions. The kinematic orbits of COSMIC and GRACE are determined to the cm-level accuracy. The NASA Goddard's GEODYN II software is used to model the orbit dynamics of COSMIC and GRACE, including the effect of a static gravity field. The surface forces are estimated per one orbital period. Residual orbits generated from kinematic and reference orbits serve as observables to determine the harmonic coefficients in the weighted-constraint least-squares. The monthly COSMIC and GRACE GPS data from September 2006 to December 2007 (16 months) are processed to estimate harmonic coefficients to degree 5. The geoid variations from the GPS and CSR RL04 (GRACE) solutions show consistent patterns over space and time, especially in regions of active hydrological changes. The monthly GPS-derived second zonal coefficient closely resembles the SLR-derived and CSR RL04 values, and third and fourth zonal coefficients resemble the CSR RL04 values.
