In this article learning process is studied as a strategic process. In this we have as a background information Jaakko Hintikka’s interrogative model of learning which understand all reasoning as a strategic searching process in which all the relevant factors have methodologically motivated roles. A learning process takes place in space and time: learning is an active search for new knowledge. To get a better understanding the whole framework has to be schematized. Learning as an active search is object related acting in reality. While acting an actor brings about some changes in reality. Experimentation has to be understood as methodical acting. This is a key to understand learning process as a strategic process: actions of learner and teacher have to be motivated strategically or methodologically.

Questioning has been understood as a general method for knowledge seeking in philosophy for thousands of years. The first systematic questioning approach in the (written) history of philosophy is the Socratic Method of Questioning (elenchus). The strategy of questioning is the central part of the Socratic Method of Questioning. Hintikka has developed a logico-philosophical model called the Interrogative Model of Inquiry, in which he systematizes the questioning method. The notion of strategy plays central role in the systematization. The deductive logic offers a strategic ideal for all human rational reasoning.

Dogs have been an inseparable part of our existence. They are oozing in multitudes on our streets, in the wilderness and in our homes. They have been called man"s best friend. Eulogized in literature, we have frequently seen their positive heroic side but they have a negative side as well. Science tells us that dogs can never be villainous but two famous novels from the past century have canine antagonists and they are extremely popular with the masses. This paper analyses the canine antagonists of Call of the World and Hounds of Baskervilles.

The nineteenth century Europe witnessed a rapid change in the prevalent law and order system. As the codification of the law begun in almost every European nation, the need to prove the efficiency of the new police system became imminent. Especially in case of Britain and France, an invisible competition ensued, where both of the nations tried to project itself as superior to the other in terms of the effectiveness of their new law and order. At this crucial juncture, the detective ‘hero’ in the European Literature was born. Not surprisingly, the first detective proper, Auguste Dupin of Edgar Allan Poe is a French by birth. However, it is Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes series that has been one of the most celebrated detective series of all time. The reason behind such massive popularity is that the protagonist, Sherlock Holmes, successfully represents a distinctly British sentiment, that makes Holmes a cultural icon. Hence, it is also exported to the colonies later as a method of cultural imperialism. While it brings a massive cultural change by forwarding the imperial interest, it simultaneously also exposes various shortcomings of the contemporary London. The proposed paper intends to put the character of Sherlock Holmes under the microscope. It is through his interaction with other people, that Conan Doyle has portrayed different factions of the contemporary British society. The paper will attempt to explore how in A Study in Scarlet (1887) Holmes only maintains a transactional relationship that is governed by utility with himself and all the people (such as the policemen, the Baker Street “irregulars” and even Dr. Watson) he comes in contact with. In this context, the paper will also examine how such transactional relationship with these ‘lesser beings’ created a new equation of power that comes with knowledge, substituting the previous feudal system of Britain.

Los principales resultados destacan cómo elementos narrativos clave y mitemas, como el mito de Prometeo, han sido reinterpretados y resignificados a lo largo del tiempo, lo que permite mantener la identidad del cuento a pesar de la diversidad de adaptaciones. Asimismo, se analiza cómo las adaptaciones han modificado y, en ocasiones, subvertido los valores moralizantes y preceptos pedagógicos originales, reflejando las transformaciones culturales y sociales de los últimos 140 años. A partir del cuento clásico de Carlo Collodi: Le avventure di Pinocchio. Storia di un burattino (1883), un caso paradigmático de arqueología transmedia, nuestro estudio retoma el concepto de
intertextualidad transmedia para comprender cómo estas conexiones permiten expandir y resignificar las obras originales, manteniéndose relevantes en nuevos contextos culturales estableciendo un marco metodológico aplicable a otros estudios de narrativas transmedia.

The exploitation of Gothic elements in detective fiction was long regarded as a skillful way to create an atmosphere of suspense and mystery. However, writers have often relied on the power of the Gothic not only to intrigue and unsettle the reader, but also, more importantly, to direct attention to complex taboo topics of their time. This essential function of the Gothic can be identified in Arthur Conan Doyle's detective novel The Hound of the Baskervilles, which alludes to many delicate issues of the fin-de-siècle British society, including violence, mental illness, and criminality. These phenomena were often examined by late Victorians in the light of degeneration theory, which held that abnormal forms of behavior were signs of bad heredity and biological regression. Thus, this paper investigates whether degeneration theory played a role in Doyle's characterization of the novel's criminal antagonist Jack Stapleton by focusing on how his appearance, behavior, and actions are represented in the text. It is argued that Doyle deliberately uses the Gothic motif of duality to disperse the illusion of a clear boundary between the civilized "self" and the barbaric "other," thereby implicitly stressing the complexity of human nature. Accordingly, the analysis, which rests on Freud's psychoanalytic theory, reveals that Stapleton's moral decay should not be read as an indicator of his hereditary predisposition toward crime but rather as a result of mental tensions that he fails to control.

My book, published 2018, aims at examining Hayao Miyazaki's career in the large context of the emergence of Japan's post-war animation industry, offering analysis of his early career as an animator on different television and film projects, his first directorial efforts, and finally his acclaimed films - and how they echo both his early works and the artistic influences, Japanese and foreign, that he absorbed throughout the years.

En este artículo se propone un análisis de la reciente obra de Alana S. Portero, La mala costumbre (2023), que narra el recorrido desde la infancia hasta la adolescencia de una mujer trans en el Madrid de los ochenta y noventa. Los relatos de formación del dominio cisheteronormativo han tendido a perpetuar los patrones clásicos de la tradición literaria del Bildungsroman, lo que ha generado la falsa impresión de que existe un relato de la infancia y la adolescencia representativo de todos los seres humanos. Sin embargo, la novela de Portero desmonta este planteamiento homogeneizador del relato de formación, al proponer un crecimiento vital que no consiste en una mera suma de experiencias y decisiones coherentes que conducen sucesiva y linealmente hacia la conformación de una única e inmutable identidad, sino que convive con idas y venidas, que van conformando un crisol identitario en el que pasado y presente se conciben como un mosaico y no tanto como una evolución. Con el objetivo de desmontar este relato hegemónico de formación, se propone analizar La mala costumbre desde planteamientos teóricos de la temporalidad queer (Dinshaw et al., 2007; Freeman, 2010; Halberstam, 2005; Love, 2007), que puedan contribuir a dilucidar las diferencias en torno a la vivencia del tiempo, el cuerpo, la familia o la identidad, con las que la experiencia queer enriquece el género del relato de formación.

English Socio-Political Context In Sometimes short stories function as a mirror of the socio-political contexts of the times when the stories were written, often through narration, climax and themes, norms and conflicts. One of the most prominent stories to highlight is "Scandal in Bohemia" by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle,

In the mystery genre, the one characteristic that the enduring figures of Sherlock Holmes, Nancy Drew, and Encyclopedia Brown have in common is a rational mind. The source of their strength is their ability to think and think well. A study examined some typical examples of the mystery genre in young adult literature and surveyed children and adults regarding their enjoyment of mysteries. Two sets of questionnaires were developed. In the first set, 32 adults and 29 children responded to a long questionnaire distributed through Bennington College (Vermont) students to a random set of adults and children. The second questionnaire was a condensed version, rewritten for 79 fifth- and sixth-grade children at a Bennington public elementary school and specifically addressing questions about Sherlock Holmes, Nancy Drew, and Encyclopedia Brown. La investigación sobre estrategias transmedia y prosumidores en el medio digital Alas tv en Santa Elena, se planteó como objetivo identificar las estrategias transmedia y prosumidores en el medio digital Alas TV en Santa Elena, para justificar el comportamiento y preferencia de las audiencias, facilitando estrategias de fidelización. Se aplicó una metodología con enfoque mixto teniendo como población a 12 mil seguidores de su página oficial de Facebook. Para ello, se obtuvo una muestra de 100 personas como representatividad de cada sector del cantón La Libertad. La cual se realizó encuestas lo que se obtuvo como resultado positivo sobre la influencia en el incremento para las nuevas audiencias tiene que ver con la transformación digital (audiovisual, sociolingüístico y gramatical), ejecutando entrevistas a tres expertos sobre el tema y coincidieron que la audiencia tiene preferencias de contenidos snackables que influyan de forma emocional y participativa, y como último instrumento, en la ficha de observación
que se evidenció criterios sobre el contenido e interactividad de la página del espacio digital Alas Tv . Se concluye que tanto las estrategias transmedia y la función que cumplen los prosumidores en el espacio digital de estudio, fue parte significativa para señalar los interés y hábitos de las audiencias, que proporcione el cumplimiento de estrategias efectivas de fidelización. Se recomienda que las estrategias transmedia y los prosumidores creen
herramientas claves para potenciar la participación activa de la audiencia, promoviendo el crear y difundir de contenido generado por los usuarios.

Este estudo investiga as diferentes representações de James Moriarty em três obras: "O problema final", de Arthur Conan Doyle (1893), a série de TV "Sherlock" (McGuigan, 2010) e o anime "Moriarty: the patriot" (Takeushi, 2020). A análise foca nas adaptações intersemióticas do personagem, explorando como ele é reimaginado para se adequar aos contextos únicos de cada obra.

This study applies theories of texts and technologies to examine ways in which fan culture and mainstream entertainment media can shape and be shaped by each other through digital interactions and negotiations. Further, it considers ways in which these interactions have potential to foster community building and advocacy efforts beyond the limitations of the screen. The analysis focuses, in particular, on the subject of asexuality as it is represented in BBC's 2010 television series, Sherlock, tracing the multiple ways in which the traditional boundaries between fans and entertainment professionals have been breached as each group works to engage the other while pursuing their separate objectives, including social change, personal and professional acceptance and/or acclaim, and commercial profit. The dissertation traces four distinct but interconnected types/sites of interface among fans, advocates, mainstream media, showrunners, and celebrities, including 1) mainstream media articles related to Sherlock and those officially associated with it; 2) social media; 3) singleowner or small group-operated fan websites; and 4) fan fiction and associated comments. This interdisciplinary project draws on the work of fandom/digital culture scholarship (e.g., Henry Jenkins, Matthew Hills, Paul Boothe) within a broader framework informed by scholars of digital culture and queer and feminist ideologies (e.g., Donna Haraway, Lee Edelmen, Lauren Berlant), as well as emerging scholarship on asexuality, which is informed by queer and feminist perspectives (e.g., Brenda Chu, Julia Decker, Jacinthe Flore). This paper examines the ambivalences, and tensions of the imperial project encoded in 19th century botanical codification of poisonous plants in British colonies, through the materiality of alkaloids in Sherlock Holmes stories. I argue that these tales reveal the orientalising gaze of botanical codifications which merged in the case of study of alkaloids with medico-criminal discourse on plants, that grouped indigenous plants, and indigenous people under the canopy of toxicology, constructing the native population as criminal and primitive, thereby giving imperial crimes a clean-chit. I contend that this bundling of forensics and the sociological was damage control of the faltering British self-image in the wake of Britain’s anti-opium movement and atrocities in the Boer war. The Holmes mysteries link phytotoxins to colonies’ cultural practices, thus reattaching criminality to the colonies, to re-institute British selfhood in metropolitan consciousness by creating via the flora of the colonies, a criminal Other. However, I point out that the institutional weight of imperial machinery could not fully contain the unease of Britain’s colonial contact. The anxiety of reverse-colonialism (1857 Sepoy Mutiny), continued to haunt the British psyche, appearing as exotic alkaloids that leave no trace, and can only be deduced by Holmes’ genius.  Such that, plant poisons in these tales simultaneously repair British loss of self-prestige, as-well-as, self-subvert it. I study homicidal poisoning tales, “The Adventure of the Devil’s Foot” and “The Sign of the Four,” as stories of revenant, disavowed (thereby spectral, intangible) imperial unease, using Jacques Derrida’s political idea of systemic evils as spectral (Spectres of Marx, 1994). The plant-poisons of these tales, I argue, are conceptual tools, revealing spectres (not to be confused with cliched ghosts) of imperial anxieties, disturbing the stability of imperialism’s coerced archiving, gathering us under its revealing spectral shade.

Forensic Odontology (FO) is now a widely recognised science which has helped to provide evidence and eventual convictions for many criminal cases. Who was the most efficient detective? Sherlock Holmes, Sir Conan Doyle's favourite character (first adventures in 1887), with his magnifying glass, examines dental proofs.

This article investigates the cryptic narrative of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s “The Adventure of the Engineer’s Thumb” (1892) and argues that this particular tale is a striking anomaly within the broader Holmesian canon. Unlike the quintessential Sherlock Holmes stories where justice often prevails in the end, this anomaly unfolds as Holmes fails to capture the criminals, thus deviating from the established and satisfactory resolution seen in the famous detective’s other investigations. The study claims that the atypical narrative of “The Adventure of the Engineer's Thumb” serves as a reflection of the prevailing collective anxieties during the time of its creation. By dissecting the narrative elements of this particular story, especially Sherlock Holmes' failure to re-establish order, and the principles of Victorian detective fiction at large, the article aims to shed light on the underlying tensions and anxieties regarding the perceived threats to the British Empire and English masculinity during the late Victorian era.

The article researches the media image of TV serial Sherlock as an emotional and evaluative result of media perception by British professional media critics and viewers -fans of the serial. it is stated that the positive media image is based upon the synthesis of appellation practice in a form of intertextual references to A.C. Doyle's works and modernization of heroes and environment; originality and riddles of the plot; exciting directors' and producers' work and brilliant acting. Negative sides of media image are connected with stereotypic tape producing of some episodes, illogical plot development and twists and breaks of plot lines, weak revealing of some episodes, analogies with detective operas and James Bond films. Media image is differentiated in the opinions of media professionals and simple viewers. It also has the tendency to maintaining myth of the main hero and forming Sherlock Holmes as a reflection of current national identity and the nuclear essence of modern British hero.

L'articolo descrive l'utilizzo da parte del medico Arthur Conan Doyle di materiale medico nei racconti di Sherlock Holmes. In particolare, sono analizzati tre esempi, L'enigma di Thor Bridge del 1922, L'avventura dell'uomo che camminava a quattro zampe, pubblicato nel 1923, e infine L’avventura del soldato sbiancato, pubblicata nel 1926.

In the introduction to her book Woman & Others: Perspectives on Race, Gender and Empire, Celia R. Daileader writes that 'British imperialism made it possible for well-to-do women to confront the most other of other women: non-Europeans.' Many members of the upperclasses of British society were travelling around the colonies during the nineteenth-century so naturally, what they saw and the tales they brought back with them were beginning to influence all aspects of British culture, particularly literature. These ideas which came back with travellers were not always positive however, and it is not uncommon to come across 'associations between a feminised, racial blackness and moral/sexual filth.' It is also commonplace to find women within nineteenth-century literature in a marginalised position, much as they would be in contemporary society, something we see in both Jane Eyre in the character of Bertha, and in The Woman in White with Marian. These two women are the epitome of the marginalised woman due to the fact that they are non-white as well as female; the other other.

Arthur Conan Doyle, the creator of Sherlock Holmes, was an experienced physician who treated gouty patients. A gouty character appears in The Adventure of the Missing Three-Quarter, a Sherlock Holmes novel. This offers the possibility of discussing gout from the peculiar perspective of a medical writer in light of the historicalmedical context of the time. This study was conducted using Conan Doyle's autobiographical, scientific, and literary primary sources, as well as past and current medical literature. The Adventure of the Missing Three-Quarter was autobiographical. Conan Doyle himself was a rugby player and his wife died of tuberculosis. Furthermore, in 1884, in The Lancet, he described the hereditary case of a female gouty patient, presenting with ocular manifestations. In agreement with the concept of rich man's gout, the gouty patient of Sherlock Holmes' story, Lord Mount James, was a rich irascible noble but he was not addicted to the pleasures of food and sex. Following the usual funny representation of gouty patients, Conan Doyle made fun of Lord Mount James, but he misquoted a true case of gout cited in the literature. In his scientific and literary production on gout, Conan Doyle stuck to the most updated medical concepts of the time, demonstrating an uncommon knowledge of scientific literature.

Although celebrated as the creator of Sherlock Holmes, Arthur Conan Doyle (1859-1930) was a medical doctor who had his own scientific production. In 1882 he published a note in the journal The Lancet, but the authorship of this article is often misunderstood due a typographical error in the signature. In this note Conan Doyle described the case of a patient affected by leukemia. Notably he used the term «leucocythaemia» proposed by John Hughes Bennett in 1852 instead of «leukämie» suggested by Virchow. Furthermore, he treated his patient with arsenic in large doses, proposing this treatment as an alternative to splenectomy. Finally, Conan Doyle suggested a possible pathogenetic link between leukemia and malaria. This hypothesis is discussed in the light of the current scientific literature.

In 1922 Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (1859–1930) published in The Strand Magazine a story The Problem of Thor Bridge. This article demonstrates that Conan Doyle did not conceive the storyline of the tale, which instead was modeled on a real case described in 1893 by the Austrian criminal jurist Hans Gross (1847–1925), in his famous compendium of criminal cases collected for the use of magistrates, police officers, and lawyers.

This paper is a synthetic effort which draws on four major bodies of theory and or discourse: 
1) historical materialism in the person of Antonio Gramsci (1891-1937), whose concept of hegemony is meant to examine the problem of developing mass consciousness among subaltern groups;
2) the discourse on the relation of Democracy and Education in the person of Amy Guttman, who lays out three sources of authority in education -parents, the state and educational professional and provides a prescriptive template for Deliberative Democracy;
3) early post modernist approaches, in the person of Chantal Mouffe, which outlined what she called Agonistic Democracy, a more contentious and less deliberative form of democracy;
4) early to mid-20th century historical, sociological and political approaches to race, in the person's of W.E.B. DuBois and C. Vann Woodward (who resonate with Gramsci), as they describe how race is used by economic elites to pit black workers against white workers, prevent the consolidation of a solid class coalition and instead, by offering poor whites a modicum of privilege and setting up a coercive apparatus to be used against blacks, make it possible for those economic elites to maintain their power position atop a cross-class white coalition;
5) Critical Race Theory (CRT) as developed by numerous prominent academics and legal scholars, such as Derrick Bell, Alan Freeman, Kimberlé Crenshaw, Richard Delgado and Cheryl Harris;
6) two somewhat original categories which I refer to as Critical Race Therapeutic Articulation or  a Critical Race Traumatic Articulation (CRTA), which distinguishes itself by highlighting personal experiences of marginalized populations, in what might be thought of as a trauma informed paradigm, and includes discourses on white privilege, the black body, the need for a 'reckoning' and the white gaze, and Generic CRT, which encompasses both CRT proper and CRTA;
7) another original, the concept of Inverse Hegemony, which adapts aspects of Gramsci's theory of hegemony and 'turns it on its head' (or maybe its side) by adding dashes of Judith Hermann and some bits of Frantz Fanon, and then emphasizes the cognitive state of those subject to oppression and have little or no trust in potential political interlocutors; and
8) various theories seeking to explain Racism Denial, from Ibram X. Kendi and Nikole-Hannah Jones to theories of Fascism from Gramsci to Jason Stanley.

All of these approaches are used to examine the arguments and strategies engaged in by the anti-CRT movements and associated efforts, such as anti-LGBTQ Legislation, including major figures ranging from , Steve Bannon and the 'inspirational' but deceased Andrew Brietbart to writers Helen Pluckrose and James Lindsay to Governors Abbott & DeSantis to Journalist Christopher Rufo and the President of the Loundon County (Va.) Republican Women's Club, Patti Hildago Menders.  But his is truly a cast of thousands.

The main arguments is that the Anti-CRT movement must be understood in multiple contexts: as a method of changing what Gramsci called the senso comune; as an effort to move authority from educational professionals to parents; as a wedge issue to be used in electoral competition and, subsequently, as an example of Antagonistic Democracy; as a misrepresentation of CRT proper as steeped in Socialism and a redefining of the concept in as a catch all or Generic category; as a strategy to maintain race=based cross-class coalitions and to prevent cross-racial coalitions based on class solidarity; as an attack primarily not on CRT proper, but on CRTA; and as call for Racism Denial.

There is also a brief consideration of Reparations at the end.

Resumo: Sylvia Townsend Warner (1893-1978), foi uma escritora de grande importância, apesar de não ser muito conhecida, sua obra traz uma vasta contribuição acadêmica. A protagonista de But at the stroke of Midnight (1971), se mostra criando um duplo para si mesma, em que ela sai de casa, adquire outra personalidade, mas não quer se livrar da antiga, mantendo-a viva como um duplo no gato em que ela adota. Isso revela a necessidade de viver uma vida diferente, mas sendo Lucy ela não conseguia alcançar tal liberdade. O objetivo deste artigo é trazer para discussão a libertação feminina dentro do duplo criado por Lucy. Para melhor compreender essa análise, foram usados os textos O estranho de Freud (1925) para explicar e compreender a presença do duplo no conto. Assim como o texto Profissões para mulheres e outros artigos feministas (2013) de Virginia Woolf, auxiliando na análise voltada a libertação feminina. Como resultado dessa análise, foi possível observar que a protagonista prendeu o seu antigo eu em um gato, criando assim um duplo que a garantia felicidade de viver livre, sempre tomando as suas decisões de forma rápida e sem muitas expectativas. Porém, ao perder seu gato/Lucy todo o mundo que ela criou desabou, acabando com sua felicidade.

ABSTRACT: Sylvia Townsend Warner (1893-1978), was a writer of great contribution, although not very well known, her work brings a vast academic contribution. The protagonist of But at the stroke of Midnight (1971), shows herself creating a double for herself, in which she leaves home, acquires another personality, but does not want to get rid of the old one, keeping her alive as a double in the cat she adopts. This reveals the need to live a different life, but being Lucy she could not achieve such freedom. The objective of this article is to bring to discussion the feminine liberation within the double created by Lucy. To better understand this analysis, The Uncanny (FREUD, 1925) by Sigmund Freud was used to explain and understand the double's presence in the story. As well as Professions for Women and other feminist articles (2013) by Virginia Woolf, helping in the analysis focused on women's liberation. As a result of this analysis, it was possible to observe that the protagonist trapped her old self in a cat, thus creating a double that guarantees the happiness of living free, always making her decisions quickly and without many expectations. However, when she lost her cat/Lucy the whole world she created collapsed, ending her happiness.

Fandom has created alternative narratives and images to extend literary works, films and video games, thereby fostering a participatory transmediality as advocated by Robert Pratten. It allows users to develop suggested or non-existent plots, including romantic relationships between characters, ranging from the heteronormative to the homoerotic. With generative artificial intelligence, this phenomenon continues, especially in cases such as Harry Potter and Twilight, where the realism achieved by this technology brings creative innovations that enrich the original stories.

İletişim çalışmaları ile ilgili literatüre kısa bir göz gezdirildiğinde medya ve demokrasi bağlamında birçok çalışmanın yapıldığı görülecektir. Ne var ki sinema ile ilgili literatüre bakıldığında, sinema ve demokrasi ilişkisi henüz yeterince araştırılmamış bir alan olarak karşımıza çıkmaktadır. Konu ile ilgili Türkçe literatürde şu ana kadar yapılmış en geniş çalışma, Oğuz Onaran, Nilgün Abisel, Levent Köker ve Eser Köker'in gerçekleştirdiği Türk Sinemasında Demokrasi Kavramının Gelişmesi (1994) isimli çalışmadır. Söz konusu çalışmada sinemada yaratılan kurmaca dünyalarda demokratik süreçlerin işleyip işlemediği araştırılmıştır. Bu alanda yeterince araştırma yapılmadığı probleminden yola çıkan bu çalışma, yakın dönem Türk sinemasını, sinema ve demokrasi çerçevesinde irdelemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Çalışmada son dönem Türk Sinemasında gerek akademik araştırmalarda gerekse eleştirel yazılarda ön plana çıktığını varsaydığımız Çoğunluk (Seren Yüce, 2010) ve Tepenin Ardı (Emin Alper, 2012) filmleri demokrasi bağlamında incelenecektir. This thesis aims to analyse the television series It’s a Sin (Channel 4, 2021) on the basis of gender roles and queer performativities and how they are filtered through the lens of emotions. More particularly, the thesis explores the televisual text of It’s a Sin to examine how emotions and affects interact with (queer) performativities. It’s a Sin is chosen as a case study for the thesis as it is a notable contemporary queer televisual text that employs emotions (most notably, shame) as a locomotive power of character development within the series, therefore it occupies a special place both in a long history of queer television and in Russell T. Davies’ works. The focal point of the series is the AIDS epidemic in the UK during the 1980s, and characters’ lives revolve around it, evoking a broad range of emotions. Affect theory is proven to be of service in this analysis, as it helps organise emotions into distinct categories. More specifically, we will examine how the social and cultural formation of affect and emotion heavily shapes and influences performativities, especially in a queer context such as that depicted in the series. The sociopolitical context will be examined by making recourse to Cultural Studies scholarship regarding television during the AIDS epidemic. To conclude, this study attempts to demonstrate how queer performativities emanate from affective structures related with the AIDS epidemic in a contemporary queer television series that talks about the (queer) past.

Se chiediamo ad una persona di farci un esempio di un detective, avremo sicuramente diverse risposte, tra queste, però, un nome spiccherà tra gli altri: Sherlock Holmes.
Figura diventata il detective per antonomasia, riscuote oggi un successo enorme, si pensi ai numerosi fan che si recano alla ‘casa’ di Holmes al 221B di Baker Street o alla statua che gli è stata dedicata.
Al giorno d’oggi Holmes non è più solo un personaggio nato dalla penna di Conan Doyle, bensì molto di più: lo vediamo comparire in diversi film e serie tv; vi sono libri che prendono Sherlock Holmes come protagonista (come The Young Sherlock Holmes di Andrew Lane) ma che sono di altri autori; abbiamo apparizioni in diverse opere di animazione sia seriale (come Moriarty The Patriot) che filmica (come Detective Conan - Il fantasma di Baker Street) dove possono comparire come cammeo o avere un vero e proprio ruolo; la sua fama ha persino raggiunto un mondo molto distante da quello letterario, cioè il mondo videoludico.
La figura di Holmes è stata talmente tanto dipanata nei diversi media che verrebbe da chiedersi quanto l’Holmes di adesso (cinematografico, seriale, fumettistico, d’animazione e videoludico) rispecchi l’originale di Conan Doyle.

Geographers have long acknowledged the contribution of fiction to the increase in popularity of some localities as tourism destinations. However, while detective novels are one of the most successful literary genres in the book market, detective fiction-induced literary tourism is still a relatively unexplored phenomenon. This research aims to determine whether and to what extent detective fiction can promote tourism and affect readers' attitudes and behaviours towards narrated localities. To fulfil this aim, we have carried out empirical research based on a quantitative method, through the analysis of the answers to a questionnaire shared in Facebook groups. Questions aimed to identify the readers, their motivations for reading different types of detective fiction and their interests and expectations, as well as the push and pull factors behind potential detective fictioninduced tourism. We have examined a corpus of 330 answers from Italian readers. The survey has pointed to the existence of various types of reader-tourists, whose choices depend on the settings of the novels they read, which the detective's gaze is able to mediate. Despite what previous literature has claimed, the analysis of the questionnaire shows that dark and uncanny atmospheres are not major pull factors. Instead, readers of this particular genre declare that they are more interested in visiting the actual places that have inspired fictional ones, and in immersing themselves in the local societies represented. In conclusion, it appears that the preferences of detective fiction readers not only affect their destination choices but also their approaches to those destinations.

The central character in Raymond Chandler’s seven acclaimed detective novels – the private eye, Philip Marlowe – is, according to his creator, a man of honour and a kind of hero and, as a man for our times, an archetype who may be compared to Sherlock Holmes, James Bond or the eponymous stranger in Clint Eastwood’s famous Western movies.  Chandler’s novels – though derided by the author himself as pulp fiction and merely escape literature – are now considered to be classical paradigms of a certain kind of hard-boiled detective fiction and appear on English Literature reading lists in colleges and universities throughout the world. In this article, I will be analysing the novels in terms of the moral principles and practice of the central character of Philip Marlowe.  In particular, the nuances of ethical conflicts and dilemmas will be explored as Marlowe struggles to navigate his way through the shadowy and morally corrupt world he inhabits, seeking to exact justice without compromising his deeply held core values. Moral education programmes now make extensive use of literary sources and – given the prominence of the type of fiction that Chandler helped to pioneer – I will conclude with examples of the ways in which ethical lessons may be drawn from examining the character of Marlowe.
