Works great with Apple HomeKit! Simple setup, does NOT require another app (if you don't want to)
Lately I've been adding more smart home devices to my home (primarily revolving around Apple HomeKit), and I needed a HomeKit-compatible outdoor smart plug to control my workshop lights. The area I was going to use the smart plug was prone to being exposed to the elements, so I required an outdoor-spec smart plug. Based on the fact that my last two Meross smart home products (the garage opened and the indoor plugs) worked out great, I decided to try their outdoor plug.Out of the box, it was a lot smaller than I was expecting - the Meross Outdoor Smart Plug was replacing a similar remote-controlled plug (using a radio-frequency push-button fob) but it took a lot less space on the back of my workbench where I have all my cables organized. I also like how the rubber plugs (that are used to seal the plug holes when not in use) are attached to the housing, so I won't lose them if ever I have to unplug something in the future. With the smart plug attached to my workbench, I plugged in the smart plug, pulled out my iPhone, and went straight to the Home app. What I like about Meross products is that you do not need to install the Meross app to use them with Apple HomeKit; you can add Meross products to your smart home via the Home app directly; this was also true with their outdoor smart plug. All of the Meross products that I've purchased so far have the required HomeKit QR code decal, making setup and installation a quick job. You can install the Meross app optionally if you want a single interface for just your Meross devices, but it's not necessary. Now that I have integrated my workshop lights into my smart home, another smart convenience has been achieved! The response of the Meross Outdoor Smart Plug is quick and lag-free, it works with Siri commands (mine is "Hey Siri, turn my garage lamps on") and it is exactly the smart plug that I was looking for.

This is a sturdy, easy to use unit with reliable Alexa integration. Even though it’s only rated for 10 amps or 1250 watts, it uses a higher grade, weather resistant 14 AWG electrical cable rated as SJTW, 105C. The outlets are plugged with thick rubber caps that look like they’ll hold up well. Setup is simple, thanks to well written instructions and a good app. There’s a separate set of instructions for the Homekit users too. It has a handy notch to mount the outlet to the wall (though I wish this was offset so that the screw would be accessible). There’s also a little loop on the strain relief that can serve a similar purpose.

The app is great. It does a good job of guiding the setup process and it seems to be written by someone who understands English like a native speaker. Once set up, the app has a couple features that are sometimes overlooked: a countdown timer so that the outlet will automatically turn off after X minutes and an option to turn off the LEDS. Plus, there’s a widget to control devices directly from the homescreen. Also, it has one essential feature that every manufacturer ought to have: a direct link to the manual.

Alexa integration works flawlessly and the wifi range seems good. Alexa commands are carried out reliably and with no more than a couple seconds delay. Alexa routines also work well. Each plug can be named and addressed independently. The unit as a whole can also be named. (Hint: use names that sounds distinctly different.) Right now I have the unit about 150’ from an access point, going through half a dozen walls, in a RF congested area and I’ve had zero issues.

I bought this to schedule lights we have on our deck to go on and off with home automations in HomeKit. The setup was very simple and what you would expect from any HomeKit enabled product. I simply plugged it in, opened the Home app, scanned the HomeKit sticker on the side of the plug, waited a few seconds, and then assigned the room and names for the outlets. I’d say it only took two minutes to set it all up. For those reviews saying it does not work with HomeKit, they clearly don’t know how to do it.

After setup, I was able to add to my automations and control the lights on and off my network, as I have multiple Apple TV’s and HomePods that act as hubs.

I’ve only had it running a couple of days, but will update on how well it holds up to damp conditions and rain. At this point that’s the only thing I’m worried about based on other reviews, but happy so far.

Have two of these for more than 2 years, and both have now failed.

Initially, they worked great like most of the reviews stated. Even I thought they were pretty good for the money. Eventually, one unit developed a fault in one of the outlets, rendering it a single plug unit (although the second outlet is still visible).

Then the process of moving them or reprogramming them became the issue, rending them as bricks.

Using HomeKit, I refrain from using the 3rd party app process for anything due to privacy concerns.

Meross/Refoss has slowly begun to change their TOS to be more invasive, and as a condition of the unit functioning, which is not the arrangement when I purchased these.

If you need to move the unit to another SSID (change wifi name), resetting the unit accomplishes nothing.
Using the normal HK procedure to add, delete or re-add an accessory does nothing with these units if they've been installed. HK simply won't recognize them...onto their App to attempt to make them work again.

Immediately 'Update App' (hadn't used it since I installed it to see what it was about), and there were new TOS requirements. Now the company wants to know my 'exact location' in order to use the device. The app guides you through a myriad of changes to your privacy settings on your iPhone to allow the device to know your network info, location and other data. This wasn't needed initially when I installed the device.

Why does it need my exact location to work anyway? Hmmm. If I was a conspiracy theorist I would suspect that the country of origin is attempting to establish a beacon system across the USA using consumer devices for mapping when GPS no longer gives them a signal...good thing I am not a conspiracy theorist.

Unplugging the unit for 2 days, resetting it, holding the power button down for 20 seconds, 60 seconds, 2 mins, does nothing. If you're HK savvy, know I've tried all the normal procedures.

Invest in Matter plugs, or try another brand. I am slowly ridding my house of all Meross/Refoss products as they keep changing the requirements of operation and they are likely to not be able to be reprogrammed when needed.

Once setup it works well. But..... (yes there is a but)
In order to set it up, you have to create an account on the downloaded Meross app (on your phone) and allow the app to access your networks.
The other thing you need to do momentarily, is make sure your phone is connected on the 2.4GHz band of your router.
In my case, I am using the Bell Gigahub 4000, I had to shut down the 5Ghz and 6GHz bands temporarily, so that all devices (including my phone) fall on the 2.4GHz band.
Then it was relatively easy to set up, through the Meross app which then could send to HomeKit app (Apple).
The 1 star I removed was because of this headache.
BTW, I re-enabled my 5GHz and 6GHz bands on my router/modem. My phone had to be on the 2.4GHz band just for setup.

Lasted a harsh Canadian winter in the prairies! It turns on and off as expected every day. There were 2 times where unit malfunctioned. One time is because there was a firmware upgrade and the other time was a mystery. I simply unplugged it and waited 30 seconds before plugging it in again and worked no problem. It is about 50 feet from our wifi router and no issues with connection. The app is fantastic and works well with my iPhone. I've tested its integration with Apple Home and no issues at all. It also works with Alexa, Google, and SmartThings. The best feature is setting the on/off times. I have my patio lights come on automatically 30 mins. before sunset and off by midnight. I'd buy another one if needed.

This product is awful. The whole point of it being HomeKit accessible is to be able to have this product connect to wifi and set it up with your Apple HomeKit, or with any smart home software (Alexa, Google etc.). I have a wifi router set up in my open concept condo on the TV stand.

The plug is on the patio (outside where it's advertised as being used for) measured just under 35 feet away from the wifi router (which is naturally inside my house). The only obstruction between my wifi router and the plug is a floor to ceiling windowed wall/ patio door. The device cannot pick up any signal and is constantly unresponsive unless the door is left wide open, again its all windows, no concrete, wood, or anything in the way. I checked it at a plug right beside the router and it works fine, I move it to another plug further away and its signal strength plummets. Absolutely trash level performance item for a product that is designed to be outside in situations I would assume where most people have homes which the outside plugs would not be as close to a wifi router as I am in a condo this is a completely useless product.

It gets one start for at least being a "power bar" and turning one outlet to 2...
