I was getting tired of resetting the outdoor timer for our porch lights to match shifting daylight hours especially fall and spring, not to mention every power outage (frequent for us in winter). I’ve had great success with Meross smart plugs in the past and it had good reviews on tech sites. Unfortunately you can’t really trust Amazon reviews.

What can I say? I plugged it in to an easy-access indoor outlet and lamp, scanned the code with my iPhone, labeled it, and it connected to HomeKit. Moved it to the porch lights, created automation to turn on at sunset and turn off later. Now if my kids are out late, I can just override the turn off and leave the lights on until their iPhone is home. I also randomly change smart lights when we travel (we have an AppleTV and a few HomePod minis, any of which give us secure access away from home).

Easy to link, easy to use, rugged… I plan to get another next Black Friday week for Christmas lights! Meross is by far the most reliable and easiest brand of smart plugs…and I don’t do a thing after power outages or time changes. Worth every penny!

Home app shows it not responding ALL THE TIME. Meross app just deletes it altogether. I’ve had it last for a day tops. It’s not very heavy, so it isn’t even a good paperweight either. I have very good internet coverage, I can sit farther away from the house and use my phone, laptop, iPad, I have smart bulbs all over outside. They all work. This thing sucks.

Edit to add: Meross reached out to me and offered a refund based on my review. The product doesn’t work, but I did appreciate they got me my money back. I do wish the product worked after trying two of them, but not the worst outcome.

Initial pairing with the Apple Home app didn’t work, but the second time did (which is on-par with my Apple Home experience). After that, this thing has been flawless. It runs both sets of my Harbor Freight incandescent string lights in my backyard and does a fantastic job dimming them.

I have an automation set in Apple Home to turn the lights on for 5 minutes after my UniFi Protect camera detects motion. It always turns on within a couple of seconds to light things up for the dog.

I’d much rather this device be Matter over Thread so I don’t have an additional device on WiFi, but I’m okay with it in this case since I only really need one of these. But going forward I’d much prefer Meross offer this so I can start adding additional devices to my Thread network.

It took a bit to get set up. First, I believe it was an error I made. I use a VPN and spent about an hour trying to get the dinner to add to the app. After a bit I realized I had installed the dimmer after I enstalled the other Meeoss switches and outlets t use. Once I disconnected the VPN. Boom. Works like a champ. I have 3 stars to the easy to install as a single sentence "turn off VPN prior to trying to connect" would have saved a lot of time. We setup this smart dimmer for our outdoor porch string lights, and it has been working great. There is an ability to power on, power off, and dim/brighten on the plug itself as well as within the app. The company app (Meross) works well to operate the lights.

I did integrate this with Apple HomeKit -- it took a couple of tries and resets, but once it was connected, I've had no issues since.

Overall, this is a great smart dimmer at a fantastic price for the features offered. Definitely would recommend!

I purchased two of these because of the Apple HomeKit integration. We recently switched over to Full Wave Rectified (non flicker) LED lights for our Christmas Tree, and were a little surprised by the brightness. We wanted a softer look. The Meross Smart Dimmer Plug worked with HomeKit effortlessly, and works with Full Wave Rectified LED lights. We have our LED lights now set at 30% when it is dark out, and they look just like our old incandescent mini lights. Great smart dimmer! (We also have on on our mini tree in our front window. We will definitely be purchasing more of these if we move to LED lights outside.)

Unfortunately, my excitement with this plug was short-lived. It has an exceptionally poor ability to stay connected to Wi-Fi, even when plugged in next to a router for testing. It would stay connected maybe 24 hours, and then disconnect, failing to reconnect. There has been one firmware update to address Wi-Fi stability since I received this, but it has failed to resolve the problem. So the potential is there, but until this issue is resolved I cannot recommend it.

So I picked up some LED string lights on Amazon, but, as with most string lights, you plug them in to turn them on, and unplug them to turn them off. I am a lazy human, and do not wish to do this. Then it was just a case of using the Meross app/HomeKit to add the plug, and done! This supports dimming, which I was glad to see my string lights do, too.

Update - October 27, 2022.

Unfortunately, my excitement with this plug was short-lived. It has an exceptionally poor ability to stay connected to Wi-Fi, even when plugged in next to a router for testing. It would stay connected maybe 24 hours, and then disconnect, failing to reconnect. There has been one firmware update to address Wi-Fi stability since I received this, but it has failed to resolve the problem. So the potential is there, but until this issue is resolved I cannot recommend it.

So I picked up some LED string lights on Amazon, but, as with most string lights, you plug them in to turn them on, and unplug them to turn them off. I am a lazy human, and do not wish to do this. Don't waste your money on this. It's been 13 months since I bought it and I used it indoors and now it keeps shutting off, shows no response on HomeKit, makes weird noises, and runs hot (when it does). It's been used to drive two floor lamps with 2 9W LED bulbs in each since day one and I made no changes to anything, it just broke all of a sudden. Since it's been over a year it seems that I cannot return it anymore. Total waste of money and time.

UPDATE: The smart plug is officially dead and unresponsive. Meross's reply was: Buy another product from us and we'll give you 20% for being a "Good customer". What a joke.
