ATYPICAL ARTISTS

STORIES FOR YOUR EARS AND HEARTS

Atypical Artists is a producer of audio fiction that spans genres, scope, and formats, from a diverse set of creators, all focused on one singular mission: make neat stuff with neat people. After creating the popular audio drama The Bright Sessions, Lauren Shippen founded Atypical Artists in 2019 with artists and friends Jordan Adika Cope and Briggon Snow, who each went on to build their own careers as online creators. Since its founding, Atypical Artists has produced both Lauren’s new series as well as brand new fiction podcasts from talented creators, both established and up-and-coming.

All the day-to-day operations of Atypical Artists are handled by Lauren, who also does consulting through Atypical to help other companies and creators realize their audio drama vision. Atypical believes strongly in keeping audio drama a space in which independent art thrives, which is why we offer production resources to everyone for free. Atypical Artists is proud to be a woman- and queer-owned company, and is a signer of the Equality in Audio Pact. Though Atypical is currently a one person studio, when we have the opportunity to hire additional people for individual projects, we make efforts to ensure our teams reflect the diversity of the world. If you’d like to support independent, inclusive art, please consider joining our membership.
