Trying to broaden my video game horizon inbetween playing a ton of JRPGs. Also a big fan of farming sims and monster tamer games.

But past all that? The game still remains a masterpiece. I appreciate it now more than ever. I had forgotten how charming of a protagonist Ammy is. So much personality was shoved into a non-speaking wolf-- also greatly helped by Issun as the deutergonist. He's a silly mouthpiece to Ammy, and together they make a great and funny duo. The bond they forge over their adventures accumulates into one of my favourite cutscenes in gaming toward the end.
And it's that same cutscene in which your adventure with Ammy comes together. I don't want to spoil it, but to me it could have been the single reason for wanting to replay the game. It touches me every time I watch it.
Okami has so many beautiful values to bestow to the player. The beauty and value of nature, the importance of community, the determination to forge your own path... all presented to you by a silly dog and her silly flea companion. Okami remains a masterpiece to me.
