I am still just learning, and it took alot of research for me but i just thought i would let all the chicken owners in Canada where you can't get alot of the really good products for chicken lice to clear things quickly, every article only suggests Diatomaceous earth or wood ash which i find is great for dust baths and prevention, but super frustrating to clear the lice i used it and after a month still has seen lice....i discovered using dog flea shampoo, i seperated the chickens with lice, bathed them in dog flea shampoo and if i noticed they had nits, i carefully cut them off their bodies and burned them in my woodstove..and all the lice were gone in one day...i thought i should post this for my Canadian friends that have to deal with the lack of products due to red tape....alos i totally cleanned outy coop, figured i should mention this too and disposed of old bedding so they couldn't get to it
I'm relatively new at this so of there are issues with this cure that i don't know about or dangerous repercussions you can let me know , I did this a month ago and now sickness or injuries from this so i figure its a good cure and i figured i should post my findings because it is a very frustrating thing to go through

You can also just purchase permethrin based poultry dust and dust them. This is the best option during cold months as spraying them or bathing them is not a practical option.

Lice tend not to live off of the birds like mites do so 2 or 3 dustings spaced 7 days apart will typically kill off the live lice and the lice that hatch from the eggs left behind.

DE should not be used around poultry as it is a respiratory irritant. And it won't prevent lice or mites.

Sorry i should be more careful with my typos i meant to say i had no sickness or injuries not now...i figure someone may take this wrong and think i meant they did get sick but they are awesome, i wish i could fix that after I posted

Thank you, good to know, funny i didn't even know about that, it turned out that the shampoo i had had permethrin in it, i lucked out that i have a set up in my basement that is cool, not cold old dirt basement, so it's warm enough that they weren't cold after i dried hem some with a towel, but cool enough that they stayed conditioned to the cold when i let them out in the seperated run

I have heard that permethrin dust or spray is hard to get in Canada. Some people in the past have posted about Doctor Doom products, but I’m not familiar with those. Sulfur powder from an ag store might be helpful.

I used Hartz ultra guard flea shampoo and it worked awesome...and i got to spend all kinds of time swaddling and holding my chickens to make sure they wer dry enough to go into the basement so i really enjoyed that part....lol
