We are maintaining a small farm with 3 chickens, 2 dogs, and a bunch of meat rabbits. We grow a lot of vegetables and fruits every year. I am hoping this site can guide us to having a healthy small flock. Our hens are about 1 year old and have been laying an egg a day for 2 of them but the one was every other day. Now the every other day layer hasn't layed an egg for about a week. Also she is bare on her rear, but she is acting normal. I am worried about her. I have been reading all kinds of articles to try to figure out a way to help her. When I came upon this site I thought this is a good place to ask questions and read what other have done.

Hope everyone is well

If you're in the northern hemisphere, it sounds like the feather loss could be from regular molting, and the reduced egg laying is from getting less light. They naturally take a bit of a break during molting and winter months (when there is less than 14 hours of light during the day.)

If you have a picture to post, it could help to diagnose the problem. If you're sure they aren't feather-picking, I bet they are just naturally coming into their first molt (they usually don't molt as pullets since they have a few juvenile molts.)

You could give them a bit of extra protein to help them regrow their feathers.

Thanks for joining and welcome to BackYard Chickens!
