So it's puzzling how she didn't get recognized for her efforts in navigating this iconic IP to box-office glory — especially considering that the Academy deems it worthy of a best picture nomination.
At least Gerwig still scored a nod for best adapted screenplay.
"The Color Purple" features an amazing cast, incredible musical numbers, and a backing from Oprah. But at the end of the day, it was shut out of the biggest prize.
This is another big head-scratcher. Oscars, you have to do better.
