Get a No Credit Score Mortgage With Churchill (But Prepare for a Much Longer Process)

If you don't have a traditional credit score, you may still be able to qualify for a mortgage from Churchill.

Churchill Mortgage lets both conventional and government-backed mortgage borrowers apply with non-traditional credit if they don't have an established credit score. To get one of these mortgages, you'll need to show 12 months of on-time monthly payments for at least four eligible accounts, such as rent, utilities, cell phone, insurance, or child care.

The downside is that these mortgages can take much longer to close. Churchill says it can take an underwriter more than 60 days to approve one of these loans. Typically, the entire mortgage process from application to close takes between 30 and 45 days.

Certified Home Buyer Underwritten Preapproval

Churchill offers a program called Certified Home Buyer that works like an underwritten preapproval, meaning a mortgage underwriter reviews your finances and ensures that you qualify for the amount you're being approved for. This can help boost your odds of getting an offer accepted by a home seller, since your financing is less likely to fall through.

Churchill Lacks Rate Transparency

You can't explore this lender's current rates without applying for preapproval or talking to a loan officer. This makes it difficult to get an idea of what you might pay with Churchill if you're still researching potential lenders and aren't ready to provide companies with your contact information.

How Churchill Mortgage Compares

Churchill Mortgage vs. Carrington Mortgage Services

Both of these lenders have strong mortgage options for borrowers who might otherwise struggle to qualify for a mortgage. Carrington Mortgage Services accepts scores as low as 500 on some of its mortgages and has options for borrowers with recent events like foreclosure or bankruptcy on their credit reports.

Churchill Mortgage is a good option for borrowers who have avoided taking on debt or paid off all their debt and as a result have no credit score. For borrowers who do have credit scores but rocky credit histories, Carrington would likely be the better choice. Carrington is Business Insider's top pick in our guide to the best low credit score mortgage lenders.

Carrington Mortgage Services Review

Churchill Mortgage vs. Guild Mortgage

Guild Mortgage also has a program for borrowers who don't have a traditional credit score. With Guild's Complete Rate program, you could qualify for an FHA, VA, or USDA with non-traditional credit. You may also be able to get down payment assistance through this lender.

But Churchill Mortgage's average fees are lower compared to Guild.

Why You Should Trust Us: How We Reviewed Churchill Mortgage

To review Churchill Mortgage, we used our methodology for reviewing mortgage lenders.
