Sprong signed a one-year contract with CSKA of the KHL on Wednesday, per Mark Scheig of The Hockey Writers.

Sprong had a goal and four points in 21 regular-season appearances between Seattle and New Jersey in 2024-25. He also had 11 goals and 25 points in 19 AHL regular-season outings with Coachella Valley. The 28-year-old is a veteran of nine NHL campaigns, recording 87 goals and 166 points across 374 career regular-season outings.

Lightning's Ethan Czata: Signs entry-level contract
    8h ago

Czata signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Lightning on Wednesday.

Czata was selected by the Lightning in the second round of the 2025 NHL Draft, and he was able to come to terms with the organization just under a month later. He made 68 regular-season appearances with OHL Niagara last year and racked up 21 goals and 34 assists. The 18-year-old will likely require more time to develop before he's in the mix to make his NHL debut.

John Ludvig: Signs with Czech club
    9h ago

Ludvig agreed to terms on a one-year contract with HC Dynamo Pardubice (Czechia) on Wednesday.

Ludvig saw action in just eight NHL games for the Avalanche last year in which he generated two assists, nine shots and 16 hits while averaging a mere 12:57 of ice time. The blueliner was slightly more productive in the minors, generating 12 points in 31 regular-season games for AHL Colorado, but it wasn't enough for him to earn a qualifying offer from the Avs this offseason. At just 24 years old, the door is certainly still open for Ludvig to eventually return to the NHL, though he likely faces an uphill battle to do so.

Kraken's Kaapo Kakko: Signs three-year deal
    23h ago

Kakko signed a three-year, $13.575 million contract with the Kraken on Tuesday to avoid arbitration, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.

Kakko will nearly double his salary from last year ($2.4 million) and earn a little security with this contract. The 24-year-old posted 44 points in 79 games between the Kraken and the Rangers last year, with 30 of those points coming in 49 appearances after he was traded to Seattle. He should slot into a top-six role while drawing power-play time in 2025-26 as he looks to continue growing his offense.

Labanc had shoulder surgery Feb. 21, forcing him to miss the final 26 games of the 2024-25 campaign. Before getting hurt, he registered two goals, 12 points, 35 shots on net and 29 hits across 34 regular-season games with Columbus. The 29-year-old Labanc is an unrestricted free agent, and according to his agent, Mike Curran, he doesn't plan to go to the KHL.

Vecchione agreed to terms on a contract with KHL club Traktor Chelyabinsk, Mark Divver of the New England Hockey Journal reports Tuesday.

Vecchione has put up fantastic numbers in the minors throughout his career, including the 2024-25 campaign in which he notched 19 goals and 20 helpers in 68 regular-season outings. Despite those numbers, the 32-year-old winger has appeared in only one NHL game over the last eight years. With no clear NHL options, Vecchione will give the KHL a try for the first time in his career.

Suzuki signed a one-year, two-way contract with Carolina on Monday.

Suzuki made his NHL debut in January but was held off the scoresheet in two regular-season games. The 24-year-old fared much better with AHL Chicago, generating 12 goals and 47 assists across 69 regular-season outings. The 2019 first-round pick will most likely spend the majority of 2025-26 in the minors since the Hurricanes have plenty of depth up front.

Jets' Gabriel Vilardi: Signs big contract
    5d ago

Vilardi signed a six-year, $45 million contract with the Jets on Friday, per Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet.

Vilardi was a restricted free agent who would have gone to arbitration if he hadn't agreed to terms with Winnipeg. The 25-year-old recorded 27 goals and 61 points in 71 regular-season outings with the Jets in 2024-25. It was his third straight 20-plus goal season, but he shattered his previous career high of 41 points, which was set in 2022-23. His new cap hit suggests Winnipeg anticipates his 2024-25 production being his new normal. He's projected to serve on Winnipeg's top line and first power-play unit in the upcoming campaign, and he should maintain that role for years to come.

Maple Leafs' Dakota Joshua: Acquired for pick
    6d ago

Joshua was brought in by the Leafs on Thursday from the Canucks in exchange for a 2028 fourth-round pick.

Joshua is coming off a disappointing 2024-25 campaign with Vancouver in which he failed to reach the 20-point threshold for the first time since 2021-22 -- a problem that was in no small part caused by his 57 regular-season appearances. If he can stay healthy this season, Joshua should be capable of locking down a middle-six role with the Leafs, though he's far from a lock to avoid stints on the fourth line or in the press box.

He made his NHL debut with the Flames last season, generating four assists in five games. Kerins is a bubble player at this time, but a strong training camp could garner him a job as a third-line winger.

Leschyshyn inked a one-year, two-way deal with the Sabres on Wednesday, per PuckPedia.

Leschyshyn was let go by the Rangers this offseason after the team failed to issue him a qualifying offer. Considering the 26-year-old center failed to make an NHL appearance for the club last season -- and played in just one game for the Rangers the year prior -- his departure shouldn't come as a surprise. While NHL minutes could be easier to come by for Leschyshyn with Buffalo, he still figures to spend the bulk of his time in the minors with AHL Rochester.

Martone announced his commitment to play at Michigan State University in 2025-26, Adam Kimelman of NHL.com reports Monday.

Martone, the No. 6 overall selection by the Flyers in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft, is the latest player to make the jump to the NCAA. The 18-year-old piled up 37 goals and 98 points over 57 regular-season games with OHL Brampton in 2024-25. Playing for the Spartans this coming campaign allows Martone to continue his development against bigger and stronger players. It wouldn't be surprising to see him ink an entry-level deal with Philadelphia after his collegiate season is over, which would clear the way for him to make his NHL debut as early as this spring.

Mantha was limited to just 13 games for the Flames last season before his ACL injury ended his campaign early. Prior to getting hurt, the 30-year-old winger was putting up solid offensive numbers with four goals and three helpers. Barring any more offseason moves by the Penguins, Mantha should head into the 2025-26 campaign on the second line with Evgeni Malkin and is certainly capable of reaching the 20-goal threshold in that role -- though if Mantha does produce that well, general manager Kyle Dubas will almost certainly trade him at the deadline.
