Green Hackathon - a CEEPUS intensive course
© Lazar Pavic
The first short-term intensive course "Green Hackathon" took place in June 2025 at the Faculty of Logistics, University of Maribor in Celje, Slovenia.
This international competition brought together students from multiple countries to develop innovative solutions for a greener future in food supply chains. Over the course of three dynamic and intensive days, the faculty became a vibrant hub of ideas, collaboration, and innovation, where more than 60 participants—organized into interdisciplinary teams—demonstrated how young people can actively contribute to a more sustainable future through networking and creativity.
The event was organized within the framework of the CEEPUS network #TASA – Tourism and Agriculture Sustainable Alliances, coordinated by the Department of Sustainable Logistics and Mobility at the Faculty of Logistics, University of Maribor. Thanks to this collaboration, 12 local students were joined by 36 international students and 7 mentors from Hungary, Slovakia, Croatia, and Serbia.
What made the event especially meaningful was that the students—supported by their mentors—designed and implemented the hackathon entirely on their own, showcasing their initiative, creativity, and commitment to sustainability and international cooperation.

Development of mechanical engineering (design, technology and production management)
Every year CEEPUS is awarding a network of outstanding quality, awarded by the Joint Committee of Ministers. Through an external panel of experts, using various evaluation criteria, CEEPUS determines the best of many great networks.
2025 experts selected the network : "Development of mechanical engineering (design, technology and production management) as an essential base for progress in the area of small and medium companies’ logistics - research, preparation and implementation of joint programs of study in the aspect of Industry 4.0.”
This network is coordinated by Prof. Stanislaw Legutko, Poznan University of Technology, Institute of Mechanical Technology, who does his excellent job together with his 32 partners.
Small and medium industrial companies (SMC), according to the opinion of many experts, are the base of developing countries’ economies. It concerns especially the economy of Central Europe countries, which formerly had nonmarket economy. Development of the mentioned industrial enterprises nowadays depends on the proper level of mechanical engineering (design, manufacturing engineering and production management) and on proper logistics. Therefore, the aim of the network with 32 partners is to utilize experiences and knowledge of partner institutions and information exchange between the partners.
The investigations carried out in the framework of the network will concern the design of machines, their technology, production management and industrial logistics, also in the aspect of Industry 4.0 including some special domains.

Modeling, Simulation and Computer-aided design in Engineering and Management
Network coordination Meeting in Sofia, 2025 © Prof. Galia Marinova, Technical University of Sofia
Network-Collaboration: Implementation of mathematical models and simulation tools to design engineering and management systems and forecast their dynamics!
The studies and classes in the network are interdisciplinary, to better reflect the complexity of real systems. Recent projects of the network are focused on the development of digital twins – complex models of real word systems, co-existing and interacting bidirectionally. The network organizes flexible courses, summer schools and academia, integrates silent partners from industry and supports a joint doctoral program. The network management is supported by a specifically designed e-management platform IMA-NET: https://ima-net.ubt-uni.net/ . The network site can be accessed at: https://ceepusmodcad.ubt-uni.net/

“During my research fellowship at the Danube University Krems (host university)in Austria, I had an opportunity to collaborate in direct mentorship by Christian Hanus, scientific director of the research laboratory for sustainable cultural heritage. His mentorship assisted me in reaching a significant milestone in the preparation of the doctoral thesis- which was a core activity during my fellowship. My participation in this program is relevant for expanding the research collaboration between the home and the host university.”

My experience with CEEPUS is definitely one of the best experiences of my student life!
"Whitin the one month of my stay at I learned valuable things such as teamwork, communication, understanding one another's cultures, as well as finding similarities between us as Europeans and Korean Studies students. Although I attended only some of the classes - the ones taught by korean lecturers - they have undoubtedly helped improve especially my speaking skills and understanding. Because I was by myself most of the time, I built up the habit of taking a few hours out of my day to focus on studying and reviewing, which to this day I implement in my day-to-day schedule. Lastly, I want to thank CEEPUS for giving me such an amazing opportunity that I will cherish for a long time."

Healthcare communication: scientific knowledge exchange across disciplines and borders
Coordination meeting of the Partners in May 2025© PhD Daniel Many, Semmelweis University, Budapest
Healthcare communication - an interdisciplinary necessity
At some point in our lives, we are all likely to be affected by a health condition. In such vulnerable moments, satisfactory and empathetic health-related information is essential. As the first network of its kind within CEEPUS, this professionells provide an exploration of healthcare communication across multiple languages and cultures as an emerging interprofessional academic field. It unites linguists, instructors, researchers, healthcare professionals and students, fostering intercultural and interdisciplinary approaches to healthcare communication. Through instruction and research in medical terminology, translation, interpreting, and languages for specific purposes, it builds patient-centred communication skills. Interregional mobilities enable the exchange of knowledge, resources, and digital tools, enhancing educational and professional development, and ultimately and patients' well-being and satisfaction.

In today's rapidly changing world, it is crucial to comprehend how (human) cognition functions and how it interacts with the ever-changing technological and societal environments.
We are at the forefront of exploring the fascinating interplay between cognitive systems and their engagement with the world, be it social, creative, cultural, technological, or otherwise. Our network aims at exploring how these components influence and shape each another by jointly doing research, teaching, and applying insights in/from the fields of cognitive science, knowledge studies/technologies, and innovation.

Central European Social Policy and Social Work Network (CESPASWON)
6th regional week, Banja Luka 2024 © Ss. Cyril und Methodius University in Skopje
Social work and social policy education has always provided important contribution to societies. By producing professionals that are equipped for interventions that affect social welfare, social justice and social rights, we help to empower citizens to overcome social risks and social problems.
Given the large amount of pressing social needs and the limited amount of resources, there are benefits from uniting forces across neighboring countries and creating regional capacities for training and research in social work and social policy. Therefore, our main idea and goal is and was to build up on previously existing cooperation practices in the region (i.e. among ex-Yugoslav countries) and extend this links with new partners in Austria, the Czech Republic and Hungary. We established academic alliances among universities several years ago that can nurture, promote and advance the regional social work, social policy research and teaching methods.

Building Knowledge and Experience Exchange in CFD
Network coordinators after a meeting
Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analyses and solves problems that involve flows like gases or liquids.
Computers are used to simulate a model that shows how these fluids flow and interact with the surfaces and solids of the model. CFD is used to pre-engineer complex areas where the right temperatures and flows are critical factors. It is a very powerful tool that shows in advance how temperature, pressure and velocity are going to behave in a design.
This Network with established contacts between scientists who deal with CFD, offers exchange of information, knowledge and experience and the participation of common research projects and other activities. It organizes lectures, seminars, summer courses and scientific conferences and workshops. Special emphasize is also on the usage of laboratory equipment of the partners within the network.
Mobilities are planned for undergraduates, graduates as well as for teachers.
Additionally, 6 of the partner institutes in 5 different CEEPUS member countries offer two different Joint PhDs.
