FILM SUMMARY
River is freshly landed in Los Angeles with Hollywood aspirations. On his very first night in the city, he attends a party in Beverly Hills, determined not to waste a second of his new life. Brought under the guidance of his college friend Nathan, River starts to see his new world of girls, drugs, & connections. When he is ushered off to the bathroom to do a line of coke, he has a chance encounter with wanna-be actress Sarah. Over the course of their conversation, they experience a new high with each other and both realize they might have met someone more significant than they had anticipated.
RIVER
Eager, optimistic, and knowingly out of his depth, River is intent on pursuing the new hollywood chapter of his life. Freshly dumped by his long term girlfriend, River thinks he needs a hookup, in every way imaginable. But when he meets another girl-of-his-dreams, he’s quickly has to figure out if he’s ready to go.
SARAH
Beautiful. Perceptive and never without a line, Sarah is a career assistant by day and an aspiring actress by night who’s ready for the next phase of her life. A natural introvert, but outgoing around others, Sarah is a chameleon. Sick of where her career is at, she’s decided tonight she’ll break out of her shell. When she meets River, he’s cute enough to be the perfect guy; for tonight. But when he starts to fall for her, she’s not quite sure if she is ready too.
NATHAN
River’s roommate and closest friend from college, Nathan is working his way up the talent agency ladder. He cares about River (more specific) and getting him acclimated to the version of h=Hollywood he’s become apart of. Bold and sure of what he wants, it's easy for others to believe in his self assuredness.
COLT
An LA native and young director himself, Colt is more interested in the appearance and parties than anything else. He is a self-described luminary and has already directed several short films, you should check them out.
DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT
READY & GO is a short film that blends the charm of romantic comedies, the pace of all-in-one-night narratives, and the structure of sitcoms. My goal is to craft a story that is not only funny and romantic but also earnest in exploring the desires of the dual protagonists, River and Sarah.
The film unfolds in two distinct parts: the party and the conversation. In the first segment, the house party serves as a vibrant backdrop that captures the possibilities of River’s new life in Los Angeles. This bustling set piece, filled with a multitude of extra’s and dynamic camera movements, will be meant to show an ability to capture character through action.
In the second part, we transition to a more confined scene as River meets Sarah. Here, we remove away the distractions of the party, replacing it with a singular, meaningful conversation. As the world outside is muted, we focus on their burgeoning connection, reflected through genuine dialogue and the hopeful possibilities that lie ahead.
The goal of READY & GO is to construct a fun situational comedy while introducing two characters whose connection you can't help but root for. When their paths separate, you'll understand why—and hopefully leave wondering about future possibilities.
