When And Just Like That... premiered back in 2021, we all got to step back into the wonderful world of Carrie Bradshaw, where writing a single newspaper column a week (or in the updated series, cohosting a podcast) afforded you a spacious Manhattan apartment and an unending collection of Manolos.
The revamped show officially wrapped season 2 back in August 2023, and IDK about you, but as soon as it aired, I began desperately wondering when we would be getting season 3. Those 18-to-20-episode seasons of Sex and the City really spoiled us, and you can only do a rewatch so many times!
From when it will air to what it will be about (and who will and won’t be returning), here’s everything we know so far about season 3 of the hit show.
Will there be a season 3 of And Just Like That?
Yes! Luckily for us, And Just Like That... was officially renewed ahead of its season 2 finale back in August 2023. Unclear how they did it, but they somehow got all most of these actors to sign on for 10 more episodes of this wacky show (more on that in a bit).
“We are thrilled to spend more time in the Sex and the City universe telling new stories about the lives of these relatable and aspirational characters played by these amazing actors,” showrunner Michael Patrick King said in a press release at the time. “And Just Like That… here comes season 3.”
What will season 3 be about?
Now here’s the million-dollar question! Sadly, we don’t know for sure what the latest installment will be about. However, here’s what we do know so far: Carrie and Aidan were back together going into the season finale, but their transition into relationship bliss hasn’t been easy on everyone. Miranda, meanwhile, was back in NYC after a brief stint in L.A. but was having drama with both of her exes, Steve and Che. Charlotte, for her part, was back at work and thriving, but her family was not. TL;DR: There’s a lot of material to dive into for season 3!
We also know Kim Cattrall came back in the season 2 finale as the iconic Samantha Jones, so let’s keep our fingers, toes, and everything else crossed that she (and maybe Smith Jerrod?!) makes an appearance once more.
The show’s writers also seem to have committed to keeping up with all the new ladies they introduced last season, like Seema and Lisa, so let’s hope that continues on.
Who will be in it?
Luckily, it seems as though the main cast—Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, Kristin Davis, Sarita Choudhury, Nicole Ari Parker, and John Corbett—is set to return. But one person who will not be coming back is Sara Ramírez, who played the comedian Che Diaz. On February 26, 2024, Variety reported, “According to multiple sources, Sara Ramírez won’t be returning to And Just Like That... for its third season, which starts production later this year for a 2025 premiere on Max.”
Sadly, further details are being kept carefully under wraps, but Che’s departure leaves many fans asking themselves a whole host of questions, including where Miranda’s storyline will go in the coming installment.
Also on the list of people who won’t be returning for season 3 is Karen Pittman, who played Dr. Nya Wallace in the series. But dw! You can still catch the actor in Netflix’s Forever *and* The Morning Show on AppleTV+...aka the reason why she had to bow out of And Just Like That... to begin with.
A spokesperson for Max told Deadline the following about Karen’s transition out of the show: “It has been a joy to have Karen Pittman play the smart and stunning Professor Nya Wallace on the first two seasons of And Just Like That… As we have thoroughly enjoyed working with this dynamic actress, so too have others.”
Deadline also recently reported that three additional new cast members have joined: Mehcad Brooks from Law & Order, Desperate Housewives's Jonathan Cake, and Logan Marshall-Green of Prometheus. However, what we *don't* know is what their roles will be. Oh, and the outlet also noted that Sebastiano Pigazzi, who plays Giuseppe in the show, and Dolly Wells, who plays Joy, will be getting more screen time as they've been upgraded to series regulars!
When will season 3 come out?
It’s hard to say when exactly season 3 will air. But the head honchos over at Max have given us an approximate-ish timeline. During a presentation to the press on November 2, 2023, the streaming service confirmed that season 3 won’t arrive on the platform until 2025, which isn’t all that surprising. After all, due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes that went on last year, the delay definitely makes sense.
That! Said!!! Fans were able to get their fix of the show on February 7, 2024, when the series’ costume designers, Molly Rogers and Danny Santiago, shared snaps of themselves shopping for the third season’s costumes. Ahem:
Plus, HBO revealed a special sneak peek confirming the show's return in the new year, but at least we got to see our favorite girl gang again!
And just like that, we’re excited again!
