At this point, it's starting to feel a little bit like the game is rigged. Jeremy Allen White can wear a white T-shirt like no one else. He can rock a patchwork jacket so well a brand has to reissue it just to keep up with demand. And, as demonstrated tonight, he can make a shawl collar tuxedo look like the most natural red-carpet look you've ever seen—even though the classic look is a little less common at awards shows and galas than we here at Esquire might prefer.
How does he always look so damn good?
This evening, the actor showed up at the Emmys in a pretty-much-unimpeachable look from Calvin Klein. The jacket hugged but didn't cling. The shirt cuffs peeked out from under the sleeves. The length—perhaps a little long, if you're accustomed to the shrunken proportions of recent years, but perfectly proportioned to hit the sweet spot by bisecting his figure between collar and floor—was right where it needed to be.
The bowtie, poised over a covered-placket shirt, framed his face without distracting from it. The shoes shined. The trousers—slim-ish but not skinny—skimmed over them. And their rise was high enough that even without a cummerbund (which might frustrate a few purists) there wasn't a sliver of white intruding below the jacket's buttoning point and ruining the overall lines of the outfit. Altogether, there's not much more to offer than a round of applause.
Well, that, and maybe an Emmy. Chin-chin!
