Origin and history of wham

wham(n.)

"a heavy blow," 1923, of echoic origin. As a verb, "strike violently," by 1925. As an intensive by 1924. Intensified wham-bam is by 1960 as "loud, violent;" as adverb or interjection (suggestively and followed by thank you ma'am) by 1971.
