Origin and history of wone
wone(v.)
obsolete verb, "dwell, abide; be accustomed," Middle English wonen, from Old English wonian "dwell, remain," cognate with German wohnen "reside," from Proto-Germanic *wunen "to be content, to rejoice," reconstructed in Watkins to be from PIE root *wen- (1) "to desire, strive for." The original meaning of the Germanic verbs would be "be content, rejoice." Compare wont (adj.).
