What our readers think
Readers find this title to be a rare surprise in the world of Scifi and fantasy. Packed full of twists and action, the series keeps getting better with each book. The ending is considered the best of any book ever read. The narration is excellent, although some prefer the dramatized version. Overall, the trilogy is highly recommended and the author's writing keeps improving with each installment.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5holy shit this was a good book. it’s probably my new favorite book of all time.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Beautiful. This series doesn't shirk from the horrors of war. It's made worse by the fact that you don't know how much you can trust your allies, especially since it's against their kind. I love Pierce Brown's writing because he perfectly balanced the action and aggression of the story with slower beats of introspection and emotion. He also balances weight and heaviness with humour that doesn't feel out of place. My one grapple with book 2 was that we didn't explore the side characters enough. In this book, we do. We see more sides to them, and it made the twists and explosions of the book that much better. I'm so very happy I picked this book up (tbh ider how this came onto my book pile). I also love the narrator. He brought the story to life. He brought so much character to the characters. He made this an experience. Now I have to say goodbye to this trilogy. Idk when I'll read the other books but I know I will.
Thank you for this masterpiece. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5One of the best series of books I have ever listened to??
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I have no more words left. This author just crushed my heart with killing loved characters, destroying all hopes, only to leave us with the tiniest bit of hope for a better future to them all.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The 3 books really were good. This is not my "preferred"l fiction genre, and I really enjoyed the characters, the plot, the journey, the creative and unique world.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5One of the best books I have ever read. ??
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This is such a great series. The world is well defined, strong characters, compelling and worthwhile goal the characters are chasing, suspense, twists and turns. There’s action, battle, politics, love, friendship and loss. If you want a great sci-fi/fantasy series, read this.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This series is so good!! The books just keep getting better and better! I wish Pierce would just keep adding book after book to the series, I'm so not ready for the series to end after the 7th book!
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5This review is based on the narration. I just finished listening to the dramatized version of the first two books and it really gives a completely different vibe and feel to the story. Even putting aside the diff
For example in Golden Son the voice actor who does Stevro sounds like a jaded young man who hides his hurt behind cynicism. In this narration the reader makes Stevro sound like a buffoon. I just gave up listening. And will wait for the dramatization of this book to be released next year. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Binged all 3. Wow what a journey. Although I started to expect that with every turn, there comes a twist. The last one was a bit on the nose and I could’ve done without. Just my opinion and probably unpopular.
2/10/‘23 last year I discovered there were 2 more books after this one! So of course I binged them too.. so my previous review about the last twist is not too much. Perfect continuation. Although I prefer to pretend now that this one is the end of the story. They cloned al their dead friends and lived happily ever after. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This was such a great end to the three books
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5In all honesty the second book was better standalone but I rated this book higher. I entered this series so frustrated at every robbed reference or stolen framework from another series. I was annoyed at the overtness of it all.
But the series kept getting better and this book redeemed it all. So the series gets a higher rating.
I waited several days to review so I could just sit with the experience. I don't want to review any plot points or substance. I'll just say that I really enjoyed this series and I have recommended and pushed it heavily since finishing. I am excited to start Iron Gold after a break. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I have loved this beautiful story with its’s excellent narration. Highly recommended.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This whole series just gets better. Each book you can feel how the author gets more confident and more daring. He writes so well but it keeps getting better. The plot twists keep getting better. The narration team is also awesome. I only wish they kept the same voices for the same characters between books but I guess you can’t have everything! Overall excellent work.

The ending was so good. I truly enjoyed it - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Great ending to a decent series. Good fun all around.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Am awesome ending to the trilogy. I highly recommend it.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5WOW. This book moved a lot slower than the first two in the series, but WHAT AN ENDING. There were still many-a-plot-twist that broke my bloodydamn heart and many characters to mourn. It was interesting to see Darrow’s time in The Jackal’s hands haunt him throughout the story, and I almost wish we’d seen that more, the way we did with another quickly-freed prisoner. I also wish there had more between Darrow & Mustang because I find it hard to believe they spent so much time traveling and working together without much meaningful conversation, but taking it easy on that relationship was a trend in this trilogy, so...*shrug*—I highly recommend this Saga overall, and this narrator is FAN-bloody-TASTIC!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5♥️♥️♥️????????♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️??? it's a wild story and this ending is perfect
