About this ebook

The Essence of Jim is prosody at its finest.

As the title suggests, Mr. Cox looses his soul and wit into his pen.

He presents the reader with multiple poetic forms and rhyme schemes to penetrate into the realms of philosophy, logic, love, humor, and everyday disquietudes.

    ...my critic, proofreader, confidant,

    closest friend, lover and wife.

    The Book

A thousand devils roar as one.

    Every fear repeated thrice.

A thousand reasons not to print...

in past, just one would fast suffice.

    A poet’s pen frees heart or spleen;

yet, few care what a bard may think.

And though his verses are pristine,

some say his words but waste good ink.

But if one phrase will loose a soul

upon a path of quest or dream,

those words have reached their highest goal—

that essence gave it high esteem.

So I will publish for the few

and pray they find one verse that stirs

    a smile...a tear ... a path that’s new

that moves the mind or clears what blurs.

My poems fondle and probe myriad concepts, disquietudes and humorous observations. They are designed for light reading and to entertain. They ask the reader to ponder the message within.

I started writing poetry in college after reading Fitzgerald’s translation of The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam. The aaxa rhyme scheme and quatrain stanza were challenging, and I
