I loved these books about Bree and Nicholas & hope she writes more. If she writes stories about them I hope she will put them in a book as well. M

MAGIC DESTINY

(T HE BREE SOMNER CHRONICLES BOOK 3)

BREE FINDS OUT THERE’S more to her magic bloodline than she realized. Now she has to make a difficult choice before everyone she loves is taken away.

Chapter 1

Bree

A cacophony of emotions stirred inside Bree Somner as she digested the shocking developments. Her heart plunged in her chest as she stared at her brother who had just woken up out of a five-year coma.

Seeing was not believing.

"You? Luis, all this time you were the demon king?" Though she formed the words with her lips, her mind didn’t register the meaning, or didn’t want to register the meaning. The hurt was too great for her. He was her baby brother. How could this be? What happened?

Then she realized. The shell was her brother, but the soul had been replaced by the demon king. Her brother’s soul was somewhere out there. And she was going to get him back. Somehow.

Our parents trusted you. We took care of you. How could you? she pleaded with him, trying to buy time. She wondered what the hell he’d done with Nikolas. If he ever hurt Nikolas...

The elusive vampire was her family now. Family wasn’t just someone related to you, it was someone who was loyal to you. And Nikolas always had her back—even when her back was turned. She could trust him with her life. She knew that now. But Luis had taken him somewhere, threatened to kill him if she didn’t cooperate with him and give him what he wanted.

Yes, they were good people.

So why did you do it? Why did you kill them?

Because they were too stubborn. Your mother knew I had taken over Luis’s body. She’d gone to witch doctors, human doctors. She even tried an exorcist. He chuckled humorlessly. She wanted to stop me from getting to you.

Bree narrowed her eyes, disbelief washing over her. She glanced around at chiseled stone walls. The iron door was locked behind her. There was no other escape. If only she could tap into her magic and teleport herself out of there and get Nikolas, wherever they had him. She knew he was t nearby. She could feel his heartbeat, sense his presence. Her eyes darted to the tall ceiling. There were small windows above. There was no way she could get out there as a regular human. She would have to use her magic.

I see you’re trying to escape, Bree. Luis circled her like a lion eyeing its prey.

So you’re a mind reader now, too? she said matter-of-factly. She couldn’t care less what he was thinking, but she didn’t want him to know her every move.

This gave new meaning to the term sibling rivalry. She’d always looked out for him. She could not believe he’d been possessed this whole time. How could she have not sensed it?

I placed a blocking spell when I first came to the home and took over Luis’s body. But your damn mother was a witch herself. She saw through me in no time. That’s why I had to get rid of her. I couldn’t fool a true mage.

Like me.

Oh, you’re only coming of age, Bree. I knew your full powers hadn’t yet taken effect. I was hoping for this moment, he hissed, waiting for the time. His voice was coarse and dark, unlike the brother she’d known. This was a complete stranger in every sense of the word.

The world had been anticipating the dark day when you’d return. The Giame-nen lunar phase that happens once in a thousand years. The super blood moon. I had no idea at the time that you were already here. Lying dormant, waiting to strike. You low down dirty...

Language, darling sister.

I’m not your sister. I’m nothing to you.

Oh, but that’s not true, now is it? And you know that full well.

Where’s Nikolas?

Oh, he’s safe and sound. Asleep.

Her heart raced. You’d better not hurt him, she warned, her tone as fierce as her pulse pounding through her body right now.

You care for him, don’t you? But are you sure he feels the same way about you? Vampires only want one thing: blood. They don’t care about humans. Yes, love is a powerful force. Your magic is getting stronger. Just what I wanted. I can feel it.

Shit. It’s a trap. He wants me to feel fury over what he did to Nikolas. When you allow someone to steal your peace, you allow them to win. He wants my magic, my power. My energy. Well, he’s not getting it.

That’s what you want, isn’t it? For me to feel that protectiveness I used to have for you. So that you could use me, drain all the energy from me to regain your full strength.

He laughed. "So, you know I’m still not as strong as I need
