About this ebook
Jaxson:
Seven years ago, I lost everything. My family, my home and the love of my life. I couldn't save anyone that day. That's probably why I became a park ranger, to help people. I just never imagined that I'd spend Christmas Even saving a woman I'd thought was dead and falling in love with her all over again.
Andi:
Seven years ago, I lost everything but my own life. Four years ago, I almost did lose it. Hiking the mountains of Colorado in December this year might have been tempting fate. I'd thought for a moment that maybe I was in Heaven, but no, I was just in a cabin in the woods with a man I'd only thought was dead.
He wants to pick up where we left off like nothing has happened. But after all these years, all of these tragedies, I've learned to close myself off. And I don't know that I can just open myself up to pain like that again. I lost him once…could I really survive it if I lost him again?

Chapter One
~ Andi Johnson ~
Who’s going to lose feeling in their toes first?
Nina asked as we finished strapping ourselves into our gear.
Roger,
I answered with a small smile. He’s wearing last year’s boots.
They didn’t make testers in my size this year,
he complained. And last year’s boots work fine, thank you.
This was the first year I’d been invited to test the cold weather gear for the next year with my coworkers, and I couldn’t deny that I was a little excited about it. I’d only been with the company for a couple of years, but it was the best place I’d ever worked.
Until I moved to Maine, I hadn’t even known survivalist gear companies existed. I mean, it made sense now that someone had to make all the protective clothes and equipment for first responders. That someone supplied park rangers and military personnel the things they’d need to survive any elements. But I suppose I’d never thought about it until I was hired by the company that did.
Given my past, it made sense that I’d be drawn to survivalists. Afterall, survival was what I did best.
The trail started off gentle, winding through huge trees, their trunks so massive I wasn’t sure the three of us could have connected hands and reached all the way around them. The snow was packed down from other hikers, making the first mile or so easy to follow. We kept a steady pace, joking and chatting as we went, our breaths steaming in the air. The higher we climbed, though, the quieter it became. The view was breathtaking, but so was the altitude. For three twenty-somethings from Maine, this hike was quickly becoming pretty tough.
As we pushed further, it became even trickier. Snow had drifted over parts of the trail, and sometimes it was hard to see exactly where we were going. We were moving slowly, carefully stepping over icy patches, occasionally stopping to get our bearings. And I have to admit, I was a little relieved that my coworkers were having as tough of a time as I was.
I’d taken safety classes and had of course hiked before, but nothing could have prepared me for the difficulty and technicality of this.
The wind started to pick up, biting even through our high-tech gear. We’d spread out a little, Roger taking point and Nina several yards ahead of me as we walked single file against the head wind.
At one point, the trail took a sharp turn, snaking up a steep section of rocks. The wind was even stronger here, pushing against me, and I bent my head down to shield my face from the icy blast. I kept my focus on the ground, trying to
