About this ebook
Dagmar - Dag - Winslow, an eccentric art dealer with a sharp wit and a deep distaste for Christmas, thought she had found the perfect escape. Fleeing the relentless holiday chaos of New York City, she booked an isolated cabin deep in the mountains—a sanctuary promised to be free of yuletide cheer. No decorations, no carols, no crowds. Just peace, quiet, and a chance to recharge.
At first, the retreat seems idyllic. The snow-blanketed wilderness provides the perfect backdrop for solitude, and the cabin's cozy interior offers the tranquility Dag craves. But her plans are shattered when a boisterous, overly festive family arrives unannounced, claiming the cabin was double-booked. With their car conveniently breaking down in the freezing weather, Dag has no choice but to let them stay—for one night, at least.
What starts as a begrudging compromise quickly spirals into chaos. and then into an all-out war over Christmas. Dag tries to protect hers escape from the holidays using the cabin's smart-home system to sabotage celebrations of intrusive guests, but the family proves unexpectedly well prepared for her resistance—and stubbornly cheerful.
Tensions escalate until late at night and when they reach the peak it turns out that the crazy family has disappeared without a trace leaving behind considerable destruction. Then it starts to get even weirder. No one wants to believe Dag about the mysterious guests visiting. There is no visible trace of them or data in the rental agency. Confused Dag starts to dig deeper into the subject looking for clues discovering that what happened to her last night was not an isolated incident but has been happening cyclically for a very, vary long time and no one has yet figured out why and how.
Darkly humorous, sharply satirical, and tinged with mystery, People talk: Dag vs. Christmas explores the absurdities of holiday traditions, the weight of grudges, and the unexpected ways the spirit of the season can manifest—even in the most reluctant of hearts. But will Dag emerge victorious in her war against Christmas, or is the holiday magic she despises far more powerful than she imagined?
This is not your typical Christmas story—it's an offbeat, suspenseful journey into the heart of the holidays, perfect for those who prefer their festive tales with a sharp edge and a touch of the surreal.

Chapter 1: Escape to Serenity
Dag’s Christmas Blues
Dagmar Dag
Winslow sat in the back of a taxi as it crawled through New York City’s holiday bedlam. The streets were a cacophony of blaring horns, flashing lights, and pedestrians juggling shopping bags while shouting into their phones.
Christmas was a relentless beast, and Dag despised every glittery, tinseled inch of it.
Oh, come on!
the cab driver yelled as a Santa-costumed man darted in front of the car, dragging a wagon filled with holiday wreaths.
Dag groaned, sinking lower into her seat. Her disdain for Christmas wasn’t a secret; her colleagues at the gallery often joked about her being a seasonal misanthrope.
She had rejected every holiday party invitation, deleted festive group chats, and refused to touch the box of chocolates sent by a prominent artist.
This year, she vowed, would be different. She wouldn’t tolerate the chaos. She would escape it entirely.
Booking the Perfect Escape
Dag had spent weeks scouring travel sites, consulting with agents, and cross-referencing reviews. Her singular requirement: absolute isolation.
The travel agent, after some exasperation, finally delivered.
I’ve found a place,
he said during their last call. It’s a summer home in the mountains. No neighbors for miles, fully stocked, smart-home equipped, and—get this—completely sterilized of Christmas decorations.
Dag felt a rare surge of optimism. No Christmas?
Not a sprig of holly, I swear,
the agent assured her.
She booked it immediately, envisioning a week of solitude surrounded by snow, silence, and nothing remotely merry.
Arriving at the Sanctuary
As the car climbed the winding mountain road, Dag’s spirits began to lift. The chaos of the city was left far behind, replaced by the serene expanse of snow-covered wilderness.
When she finally pulled up to the cabin, Dag was struck by its understated beauty. A modern, wood-paneled exterior blended seamlessly with the forest, and the large windows promised breathtaking views.
Enjoy the silence Dag, in this middle of nowhere
Dag said to herself, unloading bags.
Dag stepped inside and was immediately greeted by a warm, minimalist interior. True to the agent’s promise, there wasn’t a single hint of Christmas. No garlands, no stockings, no annoying snowman mugs—just clean, tasteful furnishings.
Perfect,
Dag whispered, a smile creeping across her face.
Settling In
Dag quickly made herself at home. She unpacked her suitcase, stacked her favorite books on the nightstand, and prepared a sencha tee.
The smart home system was a marvel. With a few voice commands, Dag adjusted the lighting, set the thermostat, and queued up her favorite classical playlist.
For the first time in years, she felt genuinely relaxed. She even chuckled at the growing pile of unread holiday messages on her phone.
Let them wonder,
she muttered, silencing the device
