Art Building Up Again.
Posted 2 weeks agoArt tends to build up with me. I begin a project, sequence, and then slowly run out of steam to complete it. Then rather than post what I have, it gets shelved and sits there. This has been bothering me for the last eight months. Not only is it a terrible habit, but eventually stories get lost and forgotten. So in an effort to clear a path I have just begun to upload from the existing piles to make room for some of the story arks for 2025.
I have also been meaning to work on several short stories and will, with a little dedication on my end, start producing these on a more regular basis.

Art Dump
Posted 6 months agoToday I uploaded a single small pile of pieces that has been sitting gathering dust for far too long. Probably a good ten pieces of Iris and a few stories attached to them. This has been a bit of a debate as to post these or not and I have a good deal of arguments to go either way here.
One, art ages very quickly. The more you practice the more one’s style changes and generally improves. As such I look at some of these old pieces and can’t help but cringe as I see just how badly they were done by today’s standard. That and I did not want these to suffer the same fate as so many other pieces, a slow unposted death in what I have taken to calling: The Vault. Where about 80% of all my art sketches go to quietly die as I have forgotten the stories attached to them or they simply become stale and are eventually quietly retired.
That was one of the motivations for creating this account, draw, post, throw everything at the wall and see what sticks. How Ironic that this now starts to interfere with my general plan to move forwards and work on digital/color pieces and bring several specific story lines to life.
Those in particular being:
- Macro Iris in a medieval fantasy.
- And her evolution as a person while at Rivetch
Both of which hang on the principle of Iris as an individual, a person, with hopes, fears, and personality traits that make her a whole feeling individual.
To this extent I hesitate to post some of the older more out there pieces, as, there is the debate. Is this who Iris is, who Iris was, or who Iris will become? Is this what she wants to become? Factoring in her hopes and desires slowly has grown and become quite important for her as a character to me.
Hence why I have been going through the art boxes, and am still sitting on about one hundred pieces of Iris in different stages of completion. But debate if they should be posted or left buried.
Something I still debate over presently.
Anyways, thank you for listening and if you have any advice please sent it my way.
Yours,
D.S.

Snap Moment
Posted 6 months agoJust one of those snap moments.
I came to the frustrated realization that I am sitting on about 120 pieces of Iris that I had never got around to uploading. And realized that I probably never would if I didn’t do so soon.
This was something I have been debating for a long time. As I fear that this seems to be the fate of a lot of my art, due to the two part nature of most of my work. First there is the art and then the story attached to the art. Unfortunately sometimes the creative juices just do not want to flow or worse the idea gets replaced with another, and another, and another down the line. The vicious cycle continues and the artwork gets shelved.
So, today I just unleashed a handful of different drawings. I fear only a few of them have stories attached to them. Some had story points other were just drawn from the hip as a means of activating that portion of the brain for mental stimulation.
Please, tell me what you think.
Is it better to wait until both story and art are ready – with the understanding that this increases the likelihood of the piece being shelved and never seeing the light of day dramatically?
Or, throw caution to the wind and just post all the Iris art that there is, regardless of how it would affect one’s view of her as a growing character.
I still roll this one around and am not happy with either answer.
Maybe I am just overthinking this, or someone else sees the answer clearer than me. Any light you could shed on this would be appreciated.
