Phil sighed and smiled in his sleep, unconsciously snuggling farther down into his warm comforter and mountain of plushies. His dreams leapt from one topic to another - first his birthday, then football, then a cold river fed by snow melt. Outside of his dreams his room was dark and quiet, the silence only broken by the odd gust of wind outside and the constant but faint ticking of his watch. He snorted and flailed an arm as his dreams turned to fish jumping through the river. Not just any old fish, but big fish - big, beautiful, juicy sockeye salmon. In his dream he soared above the river, letting out a screech as he honed in on his prey and stretched out his talons...
And in his room, a warm light broke the darkness and a soft plushie of an accordion-playing bard fox glowed with magical light as its pull cord pulled of its own accord. The rich, reedy notes of an accordion began to play, accompanied by floating, glowing motes of pure magic that danced through the air in tune. Lappi the Fox in plush form grinned, the glow around his instrument increasing with each pull of the bellows until it surrounded Phil where he lay cocooned in his bed. As the pull cord on the plush's back began to reel in, the bard fox's voice burst forth from the box in the plush's back and echoed in every corner of the room.
🎶 "Pull my string; for you I'll sing."🎵
As the salmon leapt up the waterfall in his dream, Phil clenched his dreamed talons. In the waking world, his feet suddenly ballooned in size, some toes merging while his big toe began to slide to his heel. His feet grew squishy, skin softening to lush, fuzzy minky fabric. His toenails pushed out, rounding into big plush claws. He kicked his feet, knocking the laundry hamper at the foot of his bed to the side with a THUNK and denting the plastic. His hands soon changed as well, nails pushing out into claws as his fingers bulked out and lines of magical stitching ran down and around each digit. Soft brown fabric sewn into the shapes of feathers began to engulf each limb as they increased in size, pushing and pulling the fabric of his pajamas until the pattern stretched and his clothes began to pull apart at the seams. As he moved in his sleep, his claws tore at his sheets and blanket.
🎵 "Hear my words: you'll be a bird!" 🎶
Massive, plush wings burst from Phil's back, causing him to lurch forward in bed as the big plush limbs threw pillow and plush alike aside before smashing against the window and dresser. His curtains were thrown aside as the glass of his window shattered, the sounds of breaking glass and cracking wood filling the room. Cracks ran up the plaster of the wall around his window. As his dresser broke his football helmet and lamp were flung aside and fell, toppling to the floor. A threaded seam ran down Phil's nose with a tickling sensation, and he twitched his nose and swatted at his face with his big plush claws as his nose and mouth abruptly pushed out into a big, hooked yellow eagle's beak. Atop his head, his hair bleached white at the tips before each strand twisted and pulled together into soft white fabric feathers, and his ears shrank and finally disappeared under the downy faux feathers that had begun to run down his face and puff out at his neck.
🎶 "Have sweet dreams, there ain't no rush..." 🎵
The salmon in Phil's dream glistened in the sun, looking absolutely delicious. In the real world a stitched line of magical thread tickled across his belly, followed by equally ticklish feathers that made him twitch and laugh in his sleep. His newly plush belly then began to grow, pushing out and out and out, expanding in size even more as his body as a whole began to grow. His night shirt pulled tight around his chest and belly, pulling taut before the buttons could hold no longer and flew away with a series of pops. One flew upward with remarkable force, hitting the eagle-shaped pulls of his ceiling fan and causing them to swing back and forth, chipping the glass light fixture. The wood of his bed frame creaked, straining to hold up his ever-increasing weight, and the springs of his mattress groaned as it sagged beneath him. The bed shook, sagged, and with a massive CRACK finally gave way entirely down the middle. His mattress split, springs flying out with a series of twangs and sproings.
🎵 "When you wake, you'll be a plush!" 🎶
A warm, soft, final magic settled over Phil as the final changes rapidly overtook his once-human form. Soft minky and fleece surrounded him, turning his big round into a soft plush perfect for squishing and cuddling. He stretched most of the way across his room now, claws and wings hanging off every side of the bed, as soft and big as a bean bag bed himself now. His dreams grew fuzzy as he started to awaken, the taste of fresh raw salmon still on his tongue and the fading sound of merry accordion music in his ears. He felt *great,* like he'd just had the best sleep of his entire life, though he also felt as though he never wanted to get out of bed again - he was entirely too comfortable and warm. A glow caught his eye - the plush Lappi had sent him for his birthday. He reached out for it, marveling at how he hadn't known that it glowed in the dark, before he saw his big plush claw, followed it to his big soft wings, down to his big round stuffed belly, and wiggled his big clawed toes. He held the fox plushie close, grinning as he pulled the string and it began to sing once more.
Well, now he just had to figure out how to get Lappi something just as unique for his birthday.~
