Thank you kindly! The focus actually isn't like this in the actual piece as it's quite large and multicharacter, but since I won't be posting the full image, I thought the variable focus was a nice way to post just this bit :3
Ah! Cool idea! I wondered how you achieved the effect!
It's actually a pretty straight-forward two-step process in Photoshop :) There's a Blur Gallery filter called Iris Blur that mimics how parts of an image may be less out of focus than the set focal point - you set where the focus is, and how much it blurs as it moves out. Then I just use the Add Noise filter to avoid that "overly smooth CG" look :)

I'm just going to agree with all the users who commented before me...because they're totally right. This has got to be one of the best wolf artworks that I have ever seen on this site. And that's definitely not an exaggeration.
