Hey!
I had originally intended for this drawing to be a new avatar. I liked my current one with Reede all up close against the 'glass' of the window getting his breath all over the screen, but times change and I also really wanted a new one.
I had the idea for the brown doggo to be holding a biscuit or treat in his mouf, and came up on a donut! I always love looking at pictures/drawings of canines holding things in their mouths like a stick or even slice of bread, and the angle is what does it when they look up and their big puppy dog eyes look directly at the viewer <3
And I wanted to do another front facing drawing so this is what I came up with!
Reede looking directly at ya with a glazed donut, drooling all over it because he has to pose for the camera first before partaking in the gooey dough torus.
I whole heartedly believe glazed donuts are the best kind of donuts. Dont get me wrong I love love love those chocolate long johns and powdered donuts but a fresh out of the fryer glazed goodness always hits just right.
Reede agrees and that donut is one of many from a box you cannot see as its out of view. Make sure to grab one or two before he returns to said box, otherwise you won't be getting any XD
I enjoyed drawing his slightly uneven face, and playing with face shapes a bit more than I usually do. I try not to use the mirror tool for straight on views not because I think it's "cheating" but because I think the unevenness makes it look organic rather than a full reflection. Though if I did try to make it completely even without a mirror tool, I couldn't haha.
Shading is getting better with how I'm implementing it. I used to use a brush with texture for it, but the solid colors make using a solid shading brush the best way to go imo.
Backgrounds too are hard for me. I'm attempting to do more abstract or simple backgrounds now to complement my art rather than overtake it. Often I find myself focusing on making the background super detailed even though it's just a background.
Plus I switched the canvas color from a tan to straight white. It's noticable in my previous new drawings but I think I forgot to mention it lol.
Why isn't it my profile pic?
Because scaling it down to 100x100 for FA requirements makes it look way to fuzzy and hardly detailed. Seriously even zooming in the original file and THEN scaling it down still gives the same result. And afterwards I thought of a different idea for an avatar so I went for that instead.
I love it still, so donut Reede here can enjoy his dough circle away from prying eyes anytime someone sees my profile haha.
Take care!

Of course! I always get 3 dozens at a time for any given donut run, so you can get a whole box to yourself haha.
Just don't be surprised if I try to eat some of yours when I finish mine XD

It is more difficult to draw a human or animal in it's imperfect state rather than perfectly and precise. Since perfection is not the reality, using the mirroring tool can lead to a subject or expression looking cold, sometimes boring and other times a bit... uncomfortable? Instead use the invert image tool [or in case of traditional art, hold up the paper backwards against a light source] to assess proper proportion, perspective and accuracy.
I didn't know that, thank you for enlightening me!
It's hard to live with a drawing not being "perfect" but yeah definitely I've just mirrored one side of Reede's face here on my IPad and dude it does look super awkward!
I bet if I really tried to make it all look symmetrical, the brown doggo would end up looking like Handsome Squidward XD
I do invert a lot, so much so that when I watch the "replay" of my drawing from start to finish the drawing on occasion just rapidly keeps flopping back and forth haha. I really want to do a super detailed traditional drawing again, so I'll keep that in mind!
